Looking for a tulip cultivar... soft lavender/white blooms?

Chico, CA

I saw this while passing a store's floral section today and they were just gorgeous. A very very soft, pale lavender tulip with white edges on each petal. The closest I could find in Plant Files was Triumph Tulip, Tulipa 'Shirley', but the white/color was reversed, and a little off. There was one somewhat similar tulip that came up under a search for mauve tulips (taking a shot in the dark), but the color was too dark and pink, and the petal shapes were wrong.

They were only there as cut flowers. I tried asking the florist clerk, but I was just told "Oh, they're all just tulips. I guess it's called the light purple tulip." :(

Does anyone know of a cultivar that looks like this? Or were they just dyed by the shop?

Thanks for any ideas.

How about fringed tulip "Cummins"? If you're OK with fringed edges, this might meet your criteria:

Hmm... not the one I saw, but the closest I have seen yet. Definitely one worth considering. Thank you!

Edited to add the picture looks "pinker" than they really are. Good luck in your search!

!!!

If they are pinker in the picture than they actually are, then I think those are most likely it!

Thank you for looking for me. I'm really excited about new tulips to try this year. Last year was the first year I tried any, and it was so exciting to see them finally peek out in spring after my neighbors teased me about my container 'dirt garden' for a few weeks :).

I plan on trying to get another year out of my black ones, but I am not going to bank on it, and want to try a few other cultivars to mix in with the ones I suspect will be duds.

Thanks again to you both.

I wish I had a picture of the ones I had, but they were at my old house, and I moved before getting a digital camera. Best of luck!

I found you a gorgeous tulip, but it was sold out.

This is a website that shows pretty much all the purple tulips with white edges.

Tulip "Blueberry Ripple"
This is too beautiful to not give you this option. Although the purple and white blend into one another much more than as shown in the catalog, they do look very much like blueberry ripple ice cream and are very pretty tulips.

It helped a lot! Thanks for putting so much energy in to that.

I've got a lot of options with that look now to choose from. I'm very happy.

Gorgeous... and it says that they darken as they age, and now that I think of it the cut ones were definitely on the smaller side...

Is it wrong to be getting excited about fall planting before it is even really summer yet? :P

Oh, no! Never wrong to get excited about planting! I get excited planning a bed that won't go in for a couple of years!

Lakesidecallas, that is a stunning picture of dreaming maid! Very nice find.

Oh that would be so sweet. I enjoy it so much. I use dogpile.com.
That is a metasearch engine that checks all other search engines for information and such. It's a great source of information.

I should be using GoodSearch, which is a search engine that will send funds to your charity the more you use it. My dog rescue could use it, there are soo many in need of fosters and homes!

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

I never heard of it. I can always give it a look see! Lol.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit! The charity just needs to send in the info and you're all set to go. Like google, you can have a little box on your toolbar to type into. The only thing I don't like about it is that the toolbar box for google automatically opens up a new page, whereas goodsearch just changes the page you have up already. I don't know if that makes sense... it's past my bedtime!
