Hi Everyone,
I've been MIA for a long-time(work, work, work) and let my membership expire, e.t.c I'm glad to be back and from what I can see, you're all having loads of fun with your gessies! I've been catching up on posts and drooling over all the beautiful pictures.
Kim, you have sprouted your "Gessie wings", hybridizing streps and all. :) You go, girl!!!!! I remember last year when you were first getting into Gessies. Are you growing AVs now too? Awesome, awesome, awesome!
I'm enjoying the loads of strep blooms on some I got from Rob's last Fall and one that Rain sent me. I said when I bought them that if I didn't kill them, I would be hooked. They're all still living and most have bloomed(some repeats).
I'm still working on getting the lighting right for my AVs. I think the lights need to be 12 inches from the plant. If they are too close, they grow tight hard centers.
I just placed orders with
1.) Lyndon Lyon, who has a backlog of 300 orders! and won't be shipping for another month. Boo hoo. Anyway, I ordered all episcias from them: Ember Lace, Star of Bethlehem, La Solidad Bronze, Kee Wee, Alice's Aussie and Frosted Mint.
2.) Robs Violets, who will ship next week!: Cool Fruit, Playful Spectrum, Taffy Swirl, Sheer Romance, Rebel's Splatterkake, Ma's Fat Froggie(a new one this year), Chirita Diane Marie, and Strep Bristol's Very Berry.
I'm pulling my order together for Gary, and so far have all Kohlerias: Pearcea Sp. Equador(thanks to that beautiful pic Brenda posted!), Mother's Lipstick, Beltane, Jester, Hirsuta, Manchu and Red Rider.
Now, if I could just find the plug for my camera so I can take some pics!
Hope everyone's doing well!

Shanika!! I was wondering where in the world you went! Great to have you back : ) oooo I like the looks of what you picked out to order!By The way.... I had my 1st bloom on Carmen this past winter. Love It!!! Hope you find that camera cord...lol...We want to see some pics : ))
Nancy
Shanika! I have been SO worried about you!
I remember that I wrote when you posted your pictures of your last Rob's order and then *poof* you were gone it seems.
Yes.......the gessie bug has bitten me BAAAAAD! I have parted with all but 3 hoyas now (which were lovingly adopted by my friends here) and am replacing them with gessies :)
I find this is the only forum I ever hang out on anymore *lol*
Princess Diana is doing just WONDERFUL and I think of you every time I admire a new leaf :) She really is special to me :)
Yeah, I gave into a few AV's when Maine assembled the first AV club. It is actually an AV/Gessie club because I grow gessies. I don't think the ladies there are interested in gessies too much and would rather grow just AV's but I keep bringing babies to try to tempt them. I have been starting AV leaves and separating babies for the practice etc. but I really only want 1 of each kind and need to learn to just keep 1 or 2 and throw the rest but I try to save them all.
I have always pollinated my daylilies outside so I really am excited about pollinating gessies. I have had a couple successes with it but am still learning the "timing" issues etc. With daylilies it's easy, you only have that day *lol* With gessies, a little more difficult and much less information on timing etc.
I have missed you SO MUCH! I'm SOOO happy to see you come "home".
Sounds like you have some AWESOME orders coming! I'm wicked happy for you! Can't wait to see pictures.
Hope all is well, think of you often.
Always,
Kim

growhappy! So glad you are back and suffer from this addictive behavior we share on this forum. (LOL)
Can't wait for you to find your camera, either!
Wowee Shanika! Now those are some great plants you have coming in the near future!! Pictures will be a must!!! Keep hunting for that camera cord. LOL
Hope to see you here on the AV forum a lot now that your back with DG!
I see you have Rebel's Splattercake on your order list, just a fair warning .... my first bloom were purple with white edges! I was thinking I didn't have the right plant at all, but subsequent blooms came in right!
It's funny though that each time it blooms now that at least one section is still just the purple with white edges, I wonder why??
Here is a picture from yesterday of what I'm talking about.

Brenda, wow can you grow african violets for sure! I am going to use my gro light space for just propagating from now on as that is what makes me happy.
GrowHappy, please do fill us in on the details (LOL)
