Chicks at school! Need a home!!

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Ok, you guys know that I work at an elementary school. Our kindergarten classes have been hatching chicks as a part of one of their science units. They were supposed to have been taken to a farm-part of the original agreement associated with the whole hatching thing. That arrangement has since changed and we have chicks with no place to call home.

Anyone close by who could or would help give these sweet babies a home? PLMK.

Thanks for the reply imzadi:-) Thankfully, the situation was resolved yesterday afternoon and they are going to a farm nearby. Hope you get some chickens of your own soon.

How much does a chicken cost? I know I can buy a duck for $2.

Oh, Tgg--wish I'd seen this sooner. We have "urban" chickens and were on the 'Henside the Beltline Tour D'Coop' tour yesterday. That's a fun thing some friends started a few years ago to raise money for Urban Ministries--people donate money or canned food and get to tour "urban" coops! Very fun and silly. If the kindergarteners hatch any next year about this time, let me know, and I'm sure I can find non-stewpot homes.

Funny, yotedog...There's alway room for one more (non-stewpot homes;))) I'll make sure that you're on the list if there are placement issues, lol!!

Wow this so reminded me of a cute family story of when Jen brought home 4 little chicks at Easter time from our local TSC store 4 yrs ago...I warned her it would get messy but she insisted they had to stay in her room, she would fix 'something up for them', two days later, God bless his heart, the man at TSC took the chicks back when Jen realized it was more then she bargained for with 'chip chip chipping' going on at all hours...great life lesson in there though...sometimes what you think you want you don't really need...LOL

Bev, were these the chicks I saw on the news last night? They were in NC, but I missed the beginning. Did say the chicks were now going to a new home, but not where....

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Don't think so. I must have missed the story. What happened?

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

That's the problem, I was in the middle of something and missed most of it. They were showing the chicks (maybe two weeks old?) mixed breeds, that had been hatched in a classroom. It was on WLOS, ch 13 in Asheville, but I don't know where the chicks were. I think the story was more about getting grants for classroom activities, but I (with a very bad case of chick-envy) saw only the FeatherBabies.....:(

They are soooo cute! Don't know what kind ours are, they're the cute kind. Chick envy, lol!

I miss my chickens. We lost them after hurricanes in Fl, and haven't gotten any since being here. Unexpected financial crisis kind of took the new chicken house off the drawing board, but in I get a check from the Guvmint, that's where it's going. Sadly, it won't be the Chicken Palace I'd hoped for, but it will be safe and secure. This is one expenditure I can actually justify, they won't need any feed other than what they can find and kitchen scraps.
