Goose question for you goose owners

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

I have two White Chinese goslings. The pair is about 11 days old and today I noticed that their beaks are developing a waxy whitish film. Is this normal or something I need to treat? These are my very first geese ever so I'm not even sure about what looks right and what doesn't. Other than this change in their beaks they seem bright eyed and healthy. Their size has more than doubled in this past week. Each now weighs about 3 pounds. Hefty buggers!!

Thanks!

molly...they do have diapers for geese...i got some from thegoosemother.com but i can't seem to get them on the little poopers!!! i will succeed and when i do i will report back...the goose mother says after the geese or ducks get used to the diaper they stand for you to put it on...i'm waiting for that day!!! virginia

ok, it is for the poop. remember, i have a baby right now, so i am apeaking baby terms not goosey terms LOL.

you can find them for nothing at garage sales, diapers or burp cloths. but as for me, i wouldnt' have a goose on my shoulder either ^_^

I have a feeling that I am going to be saving a lot of money since I have no inclination to carry a goose around LOL! They're already heavy to lift and they're now 12 days old! Can't imagine how big they'll be at one month!!!
Today I made a new spot for them. They were getting way too big for their brooder so I took an aluminum storm window, removed one pane and fashioned a super large brooder on the greenhouse floor for them. I covered the floor with pine chips and they're loving the extra space! The chicks who during the day now have free run of the greenhouse can't reach them to fight. They tried lol it was so funny to see them lined up at the glass trying to provoke a fight!!!

soundl ike my geese, they go over and torment the puppies in the goat pen...

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

I had never thought that all these critters might not get along!! It was a hoot to see the goose grabbing the chicks by their wings and tails when they attacked him! He looked so big next to them even though they were the same age LOL. Hanzel doesn't take any guff from them. Gretel is more mellow. She tries to avoid fights. Besides Hanzel is usually ready to fight for her LOL

does he have a pocket full of shiny rocks?

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

I'll check him for pockets the next time I hold him up. it's getting harder to lift him he's so heavy!

i've got these 2 chinese brown geese who run the show around here...they lord it over all the chickens, ducks, and peacocks...it's not so much that they are mean to everyone else but they like to keep everyone in line...i notice if someone gets to close to the property line they go over and herd them back into the yard...i've got the two baby geese in a pen when they are outside everyday and the 2 big chinese browns come over and are really interested...i wonder if they know the little ones are geese... virginia

I would bet they do know! They knew those chicks weren't their kind and they never had a problem with the ducks living with them. Yeah I'd say they know those are baby geese. Probably say to each other isn't he darling but what a odd color he is. LOL

LOL...i tried to get them to take over raising my mallards and the pekins but they weren't having any part of it...i would love for the big geese to take over raising these 2 babies...virginia

Do they show any signs of wanting to? Like feeding them or keeping them warm?
