The bush looks in great shape except for the milky white stuff on the branches. Is this normal or do I have some kind of fungus?
Thank you
Vicki
Is this normal on a Butterfly bush branch
This one looks like the variety I had - silver leaved with blue-violet flowers. If it is on the new growth only, it's just doing what it's supposed to do.
Thank you for your response. Yes, it is new growth, the thing is growing like a weed. (Pun intended) I had so much trouble with it last year, it's and my 1st year. I can't wait until it starts blooming
Thanks again
Vicki
Lots of sun and good drainage. Don't baby it (feed it) too much. Remember that the first year they sleep, the second year the creep and the third year they leap.
I have one that gets a lot of light, but just not the sun that it would truly like. It was supposed to leap last year, but lost a few branches after it got hit by a tree. This will be its year, I think.
I cut mine almost to the ground every year and they come back big time. I don't think we could kill 'em if we wanted to!!! I have a new one this year, in a gallon pot, that is supposed to be white (has a variegated leaf, too). I'm curious as to how it will turn out.
Mine has a variegated leaf, but the blossoms are dark purple . . . Carole, how much sun does yours get?
I haven't even planted this one yet! I bought it last fall, but never got the poor thing in the ground. It does seem to be okay and I will probably have it in quite a bit of sun. Come to think of it, it's darn hard to find much shade in my gardens!
And it's darn hard to find much sun in mine!!! Gotta love those plants that can adjust. :-)
Thanks for your notes. I see what you mean, I just found a pic of my BB taken about 7 weeks ago. I'll show you the before and after in two different posts. I tried growing 3 different ones (babies) and managed to kill 2, and the neighbor boy got the 3rd with the lawn mower. I went out and bought a 3 foot one last July and this is it. It was pretty sad last year, moles didn't help. I am very happy with it now and can't wait for it to start blooming. I can't believe the difference in 7 weeks.

Wow! It's looking really good.
I was wrong about mine having variegated foliage - it's "whitish," and its name is Silver Anniversary. (Still not in the ground - maybe today!)
