My RIRs

Orangeburg, SC

I just wanted to show everyone a picture of our RIR REDs. My husband and I show our chickens and we teach a 4H group and we are encouarging everyone to raise chickens. It can be so much fun and benifical to your garden as well.

What beautiful chickens! When did you know you had a roo? I have two RIR about 11 weeks and one is much more assertive than the other--but they both have rather long tail feathers. Suppose to both be pullets. Neither is as lovely as yours.

Its hard to tell until they are around 4 to 5 months on mine. We rasie bloodlines you wont find at hatcheries. My son won Champion Largefowl 2 times this past year at the shows. They are so much fun to raise. I hope you have what it is you are wanting.

Absolutely gorgeous! They look so proud! I love the tail feathers. I've only seen chickens shown at our local fair-this year I'm going to pay more attention to the birds being shown.
Thanks for sharing your pictures Jumpin4Joy.

Very handsome! I have dial-up and it took awhile to load up but it was worth the wait.

you have some prize wining pairs there!!! i have pictures from our recent show, maybe i will get them up this weekend between hatching chicks and palnting in the garden.

we raise and show Buckeyes, Jersey Giants OEGs, and some bantams... this is Best, my 2 year old who won Reserve Best in American Class at the 2006 Fair. his brother Brownie won Best, but he was killed over the winter... it was only a matter of condition, his name is Best for a good reason!

i esp love your white leghorn bantams. we had some of those at our recent show and they did well... also there were bantam cochins, and bantam RIRs, and lots of OEGs and Modern Games. my favorite was a new color of OEG, the Chocolate. i will be buying from that breeder after this years fair when he culls... gotta have chocolate!

I see you aren't new to Dave's Garden, but welcome to the poultry forum!

Buckeyes are beautiful. Yours looks really nice. On my Leghorn Bantys I only have the pair. The chicks arent hatching so wel I think because of the age of my pair. They are getting pretty old. I actully am new here since I just became a subscriber. I nver took the time to really look around here But I am finding it very intersting.

striking! and comb looks small from this angle?

Not the best picture. The comb is large but nice and flat without dimples.
