Narragansett comes through

Of the 15 eggs in the hen's nest, we got 8 healthy babies. Hopefully the survival rate will be better than the bronzes we bought this spring. I lost half of thoes.

The proud papa, he wouldn't get out of the way of the camera.

Congratulations, Jyl! They are really cute babies.
Now that I think about it, I have never seen turkey babies!
I must get to town more! LOL Can we see a pic of the
great mama? She did a good job!

here she is, but she's kind of in the shade. Of course they are all in one of my gardens!

She's beautiful. You must be one proud turkey Granny!
Will she set another batch this year, or do they only
usually set one a year? Forgive me, I am turkey
challenged.

What are the things that stand out about your turkeys
now that you've had them a while? Just curious, as I
haven't raised them. We have lots of wild turkey in
our area, I love seeing them when out for errands.

The most outstanding thing is that they poop so much and where they do it. On the decks, the porch, in my planters andd honest to God, there was a 3 foot high pile under the clothes line post this spring. The hen is very pleasant to be around, but the Tom is agressive to my husband. (he comes to me to be petted. They are difficult to contain without a large covered pen, though they don't go far, just where you don't want them. (The porch, the deck, the planters. To tell you the truth I am thinking of getting rid of them.

The best of them is that they are beautiful and funny and good at eating bugs.
