Oriole Video big file, high speed connections only...

I've been enjoying the orioles in our backyard so much that I shot and edited some video of them last week. You can take a look at this link: http://web.mac.com/farmach/Site/Movie.html CAUTION! I hate to over-compress video so the file is over 50Mb. You'll have to have a high speed connection to view it, but if you do, it's almost DVD quality video.

I tried, there was no picture.

It doesn't start automatically. You have to hit the play button (right facing arrow) in the bottom left.

You get some nice birds down there. All I get at my feeders are Grackles, Sparrows and the occasional Mourning Dove. Oh, and Blue Jays of course.

Thanks. We're lucky not to be overrun with the less desirable feeder visitors. I think I'd almost be excited to see a sparrow! Our greatest single population is probably chickadees, followed by cardinals and goldfinches. The hummers are here all summer long. We're hoping we can convince some of the orioles to hang around, but I have heard they'll keep moving north when the weather starts heating up.

I've never seen an oriole other than the photos posted here. This was a real treat to watch. Beautiful birds and your video skills are wonderful.

I'm curious as to what program you used to stitch the videos together and add the text to it. Awesome job!

Great video. We have the same feeder and they really go for it. Our orioles are slightly different - the male is very noisy and the female nearly silent at the feeder. They are wonderful birds to watch. Almost worth planting a palm tree close to the house so we could watch them nest!

Though I certainly could have used a great number of less expensive programs, I used FinalCut Pro. While I won't say that I do it professionally, I shoot and edit video as part of my job, hence the pro camera and pro editing software. Apple's iMovie would have done just as good a job, and I am sure that there are inexpensive video editors out there for the PC platform. If there is a secret to the quality of my nature shooting, it is my trusty Sony PDX-10 three chip video camera. It is as good as it gets until you start spending serious bucks on large pro rigs.

I would love to see a group of orioles working over a tree full of ripe dates! The females around here get a little bossy, but the guys apparently act the same everywhere. I did include a little squabble on the video, but in real life, it goes on almost constantly.
