I'm intrigued! My brugs smell wonderfully intoxicating, but the only time I can smell it is when I WALK BY IT, and only sometimes, mostly at night. If I ever grab an individual bloom and smell it, there's no fragrance at all!
Is this normal???
Is it just me or...
so if I have hot dry summers... would my soon to be delivered brugs do better if I put a mister on them?
oneanjl I live near Stockton and I use a mister on some of my brugs last year, but then I got a brug that I thought had a virus. Come to find out.. the humidity was too high and caused splits in the trunk and branches. Now I just use the hose when it's terrible hot and give em a cool shower now and then. As long as they are hydrated and not in direct afternoon sun, they will be fine.
I have some planted in direct all day sun in the garden area.. they look a little rough, but they are doing good.
Thanks! I know it doesnt get as hot here... do you think it would be okay to plant in full sun here? I am a few blocks from the bay
My brug is in full sun and it's doing great! It does get a lot of water.
I think if you introduce your plant to the conditions where it is going to stay gradually, it will be fine.
That is what I'm doing with the ones that have to go to the garden area.. it takes me about 3 weeks before I don't feel like I'm torturing them! :)
Brugs are fragrant at night to attract moths and insects for breeding. They like many plants have little or no fragrance during the day. Most hybridizers wait till evening to do crosses when the plant is it's most receptive. I can hardly wait till I have blooms and have my wonderful fragrant yard again.
Makes total sense...I can only smell it at night too. But why is it that (even at night) if I grab a flower and smell it there's no fragrance, but I can smell it very stronlgy in the air? it's weird!
