Shade Plants with Food Names

Pleasanton, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi! I am doing three containers for my friend as a housewarming present. Her patio is a covered, north-facing patio which is, therefore, very shady. (Which is good for me, because much of my recent experience is with shade plants.) The containers will go at the north edge, so they will get at least some filtered/reflected light.

She's a bit of a wine connoisseur and Foodie, so I am trying to pick plants with dessert or wine names. Luckily there are a lot of heucheras in this category, which is what made me think of it - Dolce Key Lime Pie, Tiramisu, Brownie, Peach Melba, Creme Brulee, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, to name a few.

I am looking for additional suggestions - any ideas?

Thanks,
Sue

Cute idea Sue. I just made up some containers that had Dianthus Raspberry Parfait and Strawberry Shortcake but I don't know how well those would do in the shade....same with Chocolate Daisys. Geeze all I can think of is sun plants like Oranges and Lemons Gaillardia and Coconut-Lime Coneflower.

Wait, I know! How about coleus? There are some dandy names there....Christmas Candy, Kiwi Fern, Aurora Black Cherry. Blackberry Waffle, Watermelon, Butter Creme, Butter Cutter, Religious Rutabaga, Religious Radish, Big Enchilada, Buttermint, Dappled Apple, Dipt in Wine, Grape Expectations, Lemon Chiffon, Mocha Mint, Pineapple Queen, Pinapple Wizard, Plum Frost, Tabasco, Wild Lime, Zesty Zucchini.....

Guess I got a little carried away. Can you tell I like coleus?
