Do you happen to know if that Botanical Garden is one that accepts private memberships? I need to be in on their seed exchanges! Nice penstamen's also you entered.

Oh, good question. I know they have the plant sale and all. They do have a seed rack in the main shop with a variety of rare stuff. It might not hurt to ask on the forums and see if anyone knows more about it http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/forums/
This is a small Allium in the unheated greenhouse and seems to do well with the dry conditions.

Oh great! Thank You! If they have a seed rack, I'm sure if I start communications with them and make a contribution--I'm sure they would let me buy some and mail them. I'm excited!

I'll try and see if this one is in the seed rack next time. Ya might want to ask first before you do the contribution as they may not have seed of this one. dmail me and remind me to check.

I found this page:
http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/shop.php

and somewhere on there it says volunteers run the shop. I thought I could email them and ask for a seed list (would like to see what else they have--esp some of those Penstemens) and become a contributing member of the garden. Maybe by becoming a member I could buy some of those seeds and support the botanical garden (I'm already a member of several around the USA). These will grow really well over the winter here and I can provide them the dry summer dormancy conditions they need.

Nestled at the entrance to the UBC Botanical Garden, the Shop in the Garden and Plant Centre features unique treasures for gardeners of any experience. The Shop in the Garden showcases a diverse selection of gardening and botanical books, handy garden accessories and tools, distinctive gifts, and dried flower arrangements. The Plant Centre offers seasonal choice selections of perennials, shrubs and vines for the garden and patio.

Of special note to gardeners seeking hard-to-find or unusual plants, the Shop in the Garden supplies seeds from plants in the UBC Botanical Garden. Hand-picked by the Friends of the Garden, the seeds are cleaned and packaged. Labels containing growing information are affixed to the packages before the seed packets are made available for sale.

All members of the University of British Columbia Botanical Garden receive a 10% discount at the Shop in the Garden.

The Shop in the Garden and Plant Centre is operated by the garden's volunteers, the Friends of the Garden. All proceeds from the Shop in the Garden and 100% of the purchase price of the seeds fund research, education, and garden improvements at the UBC Botanical Garden.

I wonder if they have a list of the seed they have. The seed rack is rather extensive of stuff but they might not export the seed. I'll try and see if these are in the rack probably this weekend.

Oh thank you--any of the allium species, penstemons, and any bulb species except corydalis (those I simply can't get to grow here) I'm really interested in. I can PayPal you for seeds, postage, bubble mailer, and a nice lunch at the gardens!

No problem mailing them into USA--they go thru the main Houston hub. Houston is such an international city that they just run the drug and explosive dogs along the line--and if they don't alert to it, its fine. I've never had any trouble getting seeds from any country around the world. The amount of overseas mail entering here (Houston hub) is just phenomenal and they are truly overloaded. I really feel sorry for them, its a Herculean effort on their part, I'm sure.

Just dmail me for address next time you go.
Debbie
