What do I do with 3 Roos?

Utica, MI

Well here is my situation. When I ordered from MM, I ordered for only 1 roo. MM put in my free chick which turned out to be a roo, then they through in an extra S. Sussex roo along with the ordered Sussux roo. I am going to let my roo with my hens, but I really didnt plan on 3 roos. I dont want to kill any nor do I want to be seperating them in other cages if they do not get along. I will get rid of the free rare chick (not the sussex) 4 weeks old. If anyone wants I think a Ameraucana roo for free that lives in ohio let me know. Now what do I do with the 2 Sussex roos? Im hoping that I can let them both run with the flock and get along. If there is something that I should do or should be doing now on how I should be raising them please let me know but as of right now they are together and I dont see them pecking at each other.

Most roos that are raised together get along fine--unless they are fighting breeds--which Sussex aren't. It can be very hard to find homes for extra roos--I had luck with Criag's List and FreeCycle--but you have to check on what the people really want them for--free roos usually end up as dinner.

Having said that--Sussex are fairly rare and in increasing demand so you might find a taker on the Farm Animal part of Craig's List.

Thanks Cat for the info.

Well i do want to get ride of the roo that is not a sussex because I want to keep the blood line to 100% sussex so now that i know I can keep my 2 SS roos and have them get along im happy Thanks

Here's another option if you can't find a home for your roos and they start fighting. I've never used these myself, but they were suggested to me when I still had The Colonel, who would stop attacking us. ...A nice 4H teenager took him to show in the fair. .....Had I not found him a home, I would have sent him to "Freezer Camp".

Once you go to the website, scroll down to the "Peepers" and check them out. http://www.strombergschickens.com/products/close_confine.php
If a rooster can't see what is in (front) of him then he won't want to fight.

Hope it helps,
Glenda
