Corn Questions

Can anyone tell me what the shelf life should be for corn seed. I planted some from 2006 and got squat. Brought some new seed and it germinated fine.

Also, can anyone tell me anything about the variety Truckers Favorite White? It was one of the varieties I just brought.

I want to plant some bush beans amongst my corn. How tall should the corn be?

1. Sweet corn does lose germination. Some cultivars more than others. I will use year old seed, but beyond that it begins to be iffy.

2. Truckers Favorite is an early field corn. (90 day) It is available in both white and yellow. The white was the most popular for roasting ears and was widely sold in the farmers markets up until WWII. Nice size ears. 8-9 foot stalks.

3. I would not plant bush beans among corn. However the Truckers Favorite has sufficient stalk strenght to support pole beans ( cornfield beans). Plant when corn is 18 inches to 30 inches high.
