Stepping stone

South, TX

The question on the other thread about the stepping stone reminded me of mine. I make stained glass and one Christmas I made a glass stepping stone for my mom and Nana. When Nana passed away, I put the s. stone in my yard. I made one for my hubby one year and told him to use it. WELL, STUPID ME. I did not prepare the ground, making it level. Poor hubby felt bad, it broke!

You need a level surface. When I feel better, I can make another.more.

I almost passed OUT when a tree trimmer MOVED my stepping stone that means so much. HE TOSSED IT! It is fine thank goodness.

I need to make one with violets. I have no more room for stained glass in my windows. I still need to hang them all. Took my largest one out when we replaced our large picture window.

That is beautiful Sally! I would have never thought of stained glass as a stepping stone! What a great creative use you have come up with now that your windows are full. ^_^

Gorgeous!

It looks like your stepping stone has a regular concrete backing on the design... I've heard of putting marbles, glass "gems," shells, etc face-down in a stepping stone mold before pouring in the concrete mix... but your design is so perfect! Do you use something to hold the glass pieces in place while the cement is poured over them, or do you pour the mix into the form first and them place the glass pieces on top of the still-wet surface?

I just cut the glass pieces from a pattern. Then, I just put the pieces on the premade concrete stone. I don't want to pour it myself. I use grout to keep the peices on.So much easier than using the usual copper etc for stained glass. I have forgotten, but I think I used a mastic or glue for the glass first. Has been about five years or more. I got the Chronic Fatigue and my baskets, glass etc, has to be put on hold.I hope to start again after my surgery is over and I am feeling better. This stone and my mom's have aged PERFECTLY! I am so glad. I love doing mosaics on clay pots too. I made a really pretty one for my sister and it is so pretty in her home.

Grouting the pieces on a pre-cast stepping stone makes a lot of sense! Thanks.

I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I know how that can just put everything on hold and leave you living around the edges. You mentioned surgery -- if you're talking about having a Chiari malformation fixed, I've heard that can really improve symptoms. I'll keep you in my prayers... Keep us posted on how you're doing. *hugs*

OH, no. I am having kidney stones taken care of, then a fibroid removed. Nothing to do with the fatigue. Just stuff you get as time goes BY! ha. I am in my late 40's...OY.

I don't know what that other thing is that you mentioned, but my fatigue has gotten much better over the years. B12 shots and other great supplements.

OIC. Well, hoping all that goes smoothly so you can get back to your garden asap afterwards! :-)
