Wow, I love it!

I like it! Can't wait to see it all finish. You are doing good taking lots of pics because once the pond is finished you will be amazed every time you look at pics of that bare spot and then seeing it all working full and beautiful.

By the way, everyone seems to have such nice rocks around their ponds. I have not been that lucky, cant find big or even medium rocks for the life of me. Do you guys buy them?

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

Yeah-I bought those rocks and they cost a lot of money and I told my contractor I wanted them waaaay bigger like a Japanese garden. So he is planning on exchanging them out for larger ones. If you decide to buy rocks I found it about 60% cheaper to go through a landscape contractor then to go directly to the retailer or wholesaler.

Oh I see. I suspected they were not just "found". LOL Is incredible the things we have to pay for nowadays. I've been looking at Craigslist since winter searching for used bricks, stones and stuff like that, so far I've gotten enough bricks for most of my projects, but the stones are hard to come by, I want them for inside the pond. But will keep wating.

I pick up odds and ends like bulbs from contractors doing commercial projects. I will stop by and ask them if I can have the tulips when they rip them out to put in their next plant and they say yes and give me an idea when that will occur. I just picked up 400 plus tulip bulbs in orange and gave them to my orange loving neighbor to plant. Otherwise they just get tossed out into the trash. I hate that idea (plants are like people to me and that is plant murder. . . I know I'm weird).

Keep your eye out for landscape jobs. Funny, there is one going on about a mile from my home and they have more river stones than I could ever imagine anyone needing and they are sitting under a pile of junk for over a year. I doubt they are going to reuse them the same way since most of the space they were in is now gone.

Bummer!
I bet you that as soon as i am not interested, i will spot some rocks. LOL

Anyhow, i also agree with you on being against plants being thrown out in the trash. Most plants in my garden are from "priced to sell racks at the big retailers". About two weeks ago I got 2 Clematis that were "dead" by lack of water; they were dry like a stick. i got them for .50 cents each, the cashier asked me if i thought they would make it and i said i was only loosing a buck if not. Now they are thriving! I am very excited although I dont know their names.

mothermole, do you have any photos of the progression of your pond up the the point where you posted above? I'd love to see them, if possible. Thanks.

I'll take a picture of it over the weekend. Problem is that the weather has been relatively chilly here over the past 2 months that hardly any of my plants have done much of anything yet. You tell me if there is much change.

Mothermole, here in my zone the weather has just now started to warm up enough. So probably you'll be getting it soon too.

This is my lil' pond. Most plants are still babies, and here you can see why I need some flat stones to hide that preformed edge.
