Can anyone tell me their experiences with Russian Orloffs and Delawares please

Lodi, United States

Hi scambleme--I only have one Delaware and she isn't old enough to lay at 13 weeks--but I find her just the way the literature describes them-- friendly, alert and curious. She is the first one to come running when she sees me in the yard and she watches everything I do closely. They are suppose to lay very well and be excellent broilers. Right now she is definitely the dominant pullet of the group which includes, RIRs, Buff Orpingtons, Marans and Welsummers. The only one as friendly is the Buff Orpington.

I've read that the Russian Orloffs are gentle but aloof and that they lay very well their first year but then taper off. Good for cold climates.

Thank you Catscan! I am brand new to the chicken hobby and I appreciate the info. Got my first birds yesterday...all adults...4 Russian Orloffs including a ROO...3 Delawares and 2 RIR's...Got my first egg this morning and believe it was from one of the Delawares. Watching them is a great stress reliever!!!!
