Suggest potting mix for native azaleas

Hurst, TX(Zone 7b)

I am planning to grow some native azaleas in a container. What potting soil mix do you suggest? I am looking for something that drains well and is acidic.

Try using some native soil since that is their natural growing media, maybe add some ground pine bark. Did you dig these up or buy from a nursery? I ask because we have many growing in our woodlands and tried to dig one up myself...........didn't happen. The roots seem to be all attached like in a colony or something so I gave up and just enjoy looking at them in their natural site. Also, would suggest a pretty large pot.
Good luck.

I wish they grew up here as they do in Georgia but my soil has too much clay content so no chance of digging them up. I am going to be ordering them by mail/Internet or buying them on a trip to East Texas instead. Because of the clay content problem, I cannot use native soil in the potting soil mix so I was wondering what other people use. Consider yourself lucky, bugme. I spent four years in Atlanta and loved the look of the azaleas in Spring.

Again, good luck with this and I still think you will need a LARGE pot and remember to plant them in dappled shade. Post pics when you have them. I'll try to find one of mine for you.

Aw, nice picture! Reminds me of the Pinkshell & Pinxterbloom Azaleas.
