Cezanne Clematis

Clarksville, MD

This is a gorgeous plant. The tag said that it will only grow 3 feet. My garden center told me that if I gave it a trellis it would grow as high as the trellis. Does anyone have any experience with this variety? The trellis I have for it is about 10 feet tall. Will the Cezanne climb that high?

No, it may go 4 feet, but it's bred to be short.

Alrighty then ... off to the garden center for a short trellis ... and a tall climbing clematis : )

Thank you.

It's a beauty! I have a Versailles which is in the same grouping introduced by Hines a few years ago. Raymond Evison is the breeder.

Beautiful flowers, Takela! You've got d-mail!

I love Raymond Evison's "Patio Collection" of Clematis. They are bred to be small and be seen up close while you are sitting on your patio sipping a cool tall drink!

I have several of the "Patio Collection", but not Cezanne. I'll have to change that!

I heard on other forums and from my own experience that Cezanne will go much higher than the "short" or "dwarf" label implies and just as wide. I have about 4 of these and they will skyrocket given the best conditions. Mine got more than 4 ft. quick, the first season being in the ground. I know the ones along my fence are more than that now, ready to flower. They are hardy, strong and flower abundantly all summer. I would say if you see one, BUY IT and don't underestimate the power of Cezanne!

Gorgeous! Does the list of Clematis that I MUST have never end?

Soulja, what is that yellow vine you've got paired with your Cezanne in that picture? It's a lovely combination! I'm thinking about putting my Crystal Fountain and a hot pink / red Mandevilla I've got together.

Yellow Mandevilla and in your zone you should be able to grow this combo best.

Groovy!

Will they go 10 feet? At this point it is mute, I purchased Fair Dust for the spot intended for the Cezanne. I bought a short trellis for Cezane right by my front door. Now I have TWO new clematis ...

Mine are all second season but they did reach 4' last year, soon after they plopped in the ground! I remember a conversation about them getting huge on GardenWeb forums. I'd venture a guess and say maybe 8 but the good thing about these also is the branching out. They go wide really fast. They would be good scrambling up a small 5 or 6 ft. lilac or another such bush i think.

I want a Cezanne!!!

I murdered my Cezanne : ( Actually it was more like involuntary plant slaughter. In the process of transplanting it the plant tore away from the root ball ... I was trying to be REALLY careful. My local nursury took pity on me and gave me another one so all is not lost ... my question is this ... I planted the root ball of the unfortunate Cezanne #1, can I expect it to survive?

Louisville, KY

YES! it will surprise you. don't give up on that one. some green will likely sprout from it if not this year, maybe next year. It has happened to mine. and hey jeanne, 2 of my Montanas that I thought died, HAVE SPROUTED LIFE! i'm thrilled!

Congrats on the Montana~!!!...Jeanne
