O.k. everybody, what do you thnk this is?

Conroe, TX

Our second batch of chicks from Ideal included one we did not order. It stood out in the crowd because it was yellow and we ordered Blue Cochins, Golden Phoenix, and Ameraucanas. They are all 5 weeks old now and the yellow one is feathering out sort of white or off white on the bottom and its head, neck and shoulders is a caramel color. It has 2 feathers on its back that look like the Ameraucanas and it has dark grey legs. We have named it Obie (Odd Ball, O, B) It does not have a straight comb, looks more like a pea comb or something else. any guesses? I'll post a couple more pics.

Couldn't it be a light Ameraucana? Pea comb is right for that and they come in "various colors."

I am not sure but I think it is a chicken..... :)

Wouldn't it be something Ideal sells? I don't see that breed anywhere on their pages.

I saw a chicken once and it looked like that. It was crossing the road to get to the other side.... :)

Ameraucanas is in the list of breeds you got, isn't it, smedgekles?

hmmm I think you're right Catscan. smedgekles did list them. Not sure where Ideal hides them on their pages though.

OK, here goes. It is an Ameraucana or an Araucana. It looks exactly like the one I had that I called Trouble. She was the one who learned how to fly over the 7ft fence we hae around the coop, squeeze out the gate when it was open a few inches, and generally get into big trouble, hence the name. I got her from MM (4 years ago) as an Araucana, but she might have been an Ameraucana. We put her in the pot last year.

Virg you are too funny. I know its a chicken :) It's the kind I'm fuzzy on.

I thought it might be some sort of Ameraucana. And I did go on Ideals site and look through all the pages searching for something that looked like it might be this one but found nothing. I guess one of the breeders snuck it in with their eggs and when it hatched looking so different than the other Ameraucanas Ideal popped it in our box not knowing what to do with it. That's o.k. we'll take it!

Granny so far this one is a sweet one and hasn't given us much trouble. The other Ameraucanas are another story though.

I'd wager you have another Ameraucana there. Eyes, comb and feet all seem to look Ameraucanaish.

I kinda thought that may be the case, but wanted some additional opinions. And now that you mention it, I see what you mean by the eyes.

Come to think of it, I didn't get those from MM. Those are the ones I ordered through our local mill. I had 5 different kinds. RIRs, Buffs, White rocks, Barred rocks, and supposedly Araucanas, but those had to be Ameraucanas. They came from the same hatchery (Townline) that I was supposed to get my Buffs this year that they kept back ordering.
