Almost Done

Jackson, MI(Zone 5b)

Well I have only posted once on this forum but I am almost done with my new pond and wanted to show it off. I just moved into my house last year and since I don't really like to mow I decided to turn 1/2 of the grassy area of my yard into pond. I also didn't take many pics along the way.

It is 6.5'x13' and 4' deep and the lowest point. I will post a few pics of the yard, pond and waterfall below... so what do you all think? I am still getting plants and finishing the landscaping, but I think I have done pretty good :)

Welcome to the pond world. You have done fantastic. Just wait a few days/weeks when the plants are mature and it will be a true knockout. Are you planning to get fish?

(Zone 7a)

Unleashed, may I e-mail that last pic with my husband at work? It's fabulolus!

LouC - I am planning on getting fish. I am going to wait a couple weeks and will add a few koi to start with. One of my employees at work has a friend that needs to thin out his fish so I am getting them for free.

kwanjin - sure you can email the photo. Thanks, I have been working every night after work since it started getting warm. I found the reed that I put on the privacy fence at Home Depot.

Thanks a bunch. He's going to love it.

And free is always good.

That looks fantastic--really well done. I think the reed is a great idea.

I will be sure to keep you posted on the progress. I have just gotten some new plants and ordered some snails. I will be ready for fish soon enough. Even though I don't participate much I appreciate all of the input you all have provided through all the great posts. I am still reading and learning and I am sure I will have more questions.

I did get 2 Butterfly Koi last night. One is all white and the other is mostly white with some yellow. I have seen them once since they got free reign of the pond. They were exploring underneath the waterfall. I am so glad I decided to do build my pond. It is so relaxing for me to come home after a long day (I have my own business) and relax outside listening to the waterfall. It is like my little retreat in the city.

I took some more pictures of my pond and thought I would share the progess with you all. I know I am not as active as some on this board but I do read and learn a lot. This is a full view shoot of the pond. I will post a few more below.

Such a beautiful retreat! Thanks for sharing. I showed my hubby your pics and he really enjoyed them, too. He's thinking seriously now about making a water garden.

Very nice. Since the plants have filled in, it appears it has always been there.

It looks beautiful!

Beautiful retreat, you did a great job. I love the reed screening. That and the lantern kind of give it a bit of a Japanese water garden feel. Very relaxing.

Thanks everyone - It is still a work in progress. This is my first time even having my own yard and garden so I do have somethings to move in the fall. I will keep you updated as the time goes by.

What a beatiful retreat, Laurie! Your creativity is to be commended! I have been wanting to put in a pond for a very long time but just haven't been brave enough to start it. One of these days. :-)
