The Red-Bellied Woodpecker brought a young one around.
Woodpecker Baby
Oh, I so love the red bellied WP! I have a family at my house, too and it's so funny to hear them coming across the woods, screaming their arrival, with their babies flying a couple feet behind them and screaming an octave or so higher, just like their daddies and mommas!
GM - how sweet is that! I love the "feeding" one.
Nice pics GP! I love the young one!
OMG...GP...these are just wonderful! I have never seen a young one before! Thanks for sharing this series...too cool!
! Now I know what that "new" bird is on the suet feeder! You sure got some great pics.
Thanks so much everyone. I had a feeling they had young ones because the parents kept "loading up" with food before flying away.
Fabulous. They are on at the top of my favorite list, too. Love the purrrring sound they make in the tree tops.
I agree OP! I love to go outside in the early evenings when its just becoming dark and hearing them calling back and forth to one another.
I'll keep my eyes and ears open for families of them now - hopping up and down trunks.
