I just received an e-mail that Tinker Grove Gardens in Colleyville is going out of business at the end of May. Everything will be 50% off, starting this weekend.
It has been a tough year for nurseries around here. The Grapevine Calloway's location is closing this month, and the both the local Home Depot Landscape Supply and Plant Shed have already closed. What's up?!?

Another nursery closing!
That is very sad to hear, but with everything more expensive, I guess people are only buying what they absolutely need, of course we plant addicts still keep buying but I bet everyone is a lot more conservative.
Josephine.
In San Antonio, all the Calloways are closing.
I am so disappointed to hear about Tinkers. I was just there the other day, and I thought the owner seemed kind of quiet. What a loss! I noticed that the Walmart in Grapevine had alot of nice perenials.Maybe that is a factor too.
.
I was at Tinker's this morning, feeling a bit like a vulture. I picked up some unusual plants, Jerusalem sage, white skullcap and white obedient plant and white winecup. I am happy I got these plants, but it is not with the same joy when you get a good bargain.
I didn't end up buying many plants, but I bought a nice bench, a dog statue, and a bunch of miscellaneous bags of organic supplies. It will definitely be sad to see them go. I'm going to have to drive considerably further in the future to find good native plants...

Glad you got some nice stuff.I also bought mulch, compost and expanded shale. It was sad to see on Sunday that some of the plants hadn't been watered. The staff was running on empty.
Anna, I love the J. Sage! Mitch gave me one and I was surprised to see it is evergreen (or gray). Georgeous yellow blooms too.
Woah, Linda, ALL the SA Calloways are closing!? Wow that's a surprise. Huh, I guess people really aren't wanting to buy plants. I know I DO want to but it's a lil' here....a lil' there....
Too many apartment dwelling, computer and tv entertained people now days. IMHO
And don't forget the Big Box stores that are trying to take over everything! Some people can go for many years without setting foot in a REAL NURSERY.
Yep, and they sell the invasives to the landscapers and new home owners. Of course until Dave's and my DG friends, I bought'em!
LOL Sheila, that's what I did! But I've seen both groups guilty of selling invasives.
