Noid with seed pod

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

This hoya might be an acuta/vertuculata. But its an odd looking hoya....I got it a few years ago labled hoya sp India. The new leaves are redish underneath and the flowers are spotted. Here it is trying to reproduce.

Cool looking buds! I never saw a seed pod on Hoya in real life.

Too cool, Ric....wanna trade seeds? I have H. australis with 4 pods!!!

Very cool! Love the color of those buds too ... hope you will post another photo when they open!

Thanks plantlady.....the budds opened a few weeks ago and I failed to that a picture of it.
It looks like an ? acuta/verticulata.

Carol....I'm always up for trading. I'd love some australis seeds. I need to go buy some panty hoses so that I can trap the seeds.

if you just put cello tape around the pod and keep an eye on it...the tape will avoid the pod bursting open and spilling the seeds....

A friend sent me some seeds from his gh in Texas.....pod parent H. obovata and the pollen parent the only other blooming hoya at the time...H. carnosa. The leaves are great and there is a peduncle forming...can't wait to see the flowers. I have a couple of plants....I am excited!!!!

Carol....how tight do you put that tape? Also, do you put several pieces on the pod?
I have an australis 'Mrs. G' with 4 pods on it. I collected them before from it with the panty hose method and have lots of babies to sell this summer. However, I don't think I want to mess with that many seeds of the same thing again, so if someone wants to trade something...I'm game. Can you send the pods before they open, or do you have to wait until they pop? Also...what is the best thing to send seed pods in?

I just put one piece. When the pods are starting to really ripen, that line running down the pod (where it will open) begins to 'indent' ...you can pick it then and send. I have picked very green pods and let the seeds mature for weeds....maybe didn't get 200 plants, but 75 ain't bad!!!!

Marcy... Mrs. G is a cultivar and probably selfed...so there is no other hoya in the mix. But you might want to grow out the seedlings unless you are 100% positive they were not pollinated by another hoya. Also, seeds will not always be consistent with the parent...that is why Mrs. G is a cool cultivar . They might all be different. Then...what name do they have? Some you give a seedling to will call it anything and there we have a mess. Best to make sure they are passed on as Mrs. G Seedlings.... Sorry to sound like a Nazi...but this name thing gets so messed up!!!!

Here are the seedlings.......Only 10 made it. A couple of them are almost flowering size. But most are the size of the seedling in the picture. Still no Idea to what the parents are. the Dad I found mislabled as hoya cinnamomifolia and the mother I got from Dale K. labled as hoyas sp. India. Both parents are tough and rugged and good bloomers and the offspring were slow at first but this summer they are growing like weeds. We'll see when It flowers.

Great growing Ric! Very healthy looking seedling ... I like the foliage on that one. Look forward to seeing pic's of the flowers when it blooms. Do you think they will look like the ones in your first photo back from May? Those buds were really pretty!
