A chick is hatching, a chick is hatching!!

Our little blue cochin has been sitting on 3 eggs for weeks now and we figured they were due to hatch about the 10th. This morning my son went out to check and looked at her eggs. He said one was pipping and peeping! Soon we should have at least one little chick and hopefully 2 more soon after. It will be neat to see her walking about with her little ones. I think she will make a good little momma.
The picture is of her with the two possible fathers. One is a poor sebright (he's a sweety but not feathered well and with a straight comb, we love him anyway) The other is a silver laced polish. They are all less than a year old.

One is out of the shell. So so tiny, black with feathered feet. Now we just have to wait on the other two eggs. One more of hers and one Ameraucana egg my husband stuck under her.

Here is a picture of the first little chick. It looks so much bigger in the picture than it is. It is so very tiny.

Sad news, the baby died last night. I think it smothered. She still had 2 eggs and I guess she didn't want the baby to go anywhere while she still sat on her eggs so she kept in way under her. It was alive last night but this morning it was dead.
We candled the other eggs and her other egg looks blank. It isn't dark at all. The Ameraucana egg she has under her is very dark so we think it is all right. She also has an egg from our polish under her but it is only a week along. I candled it and it looks like a dark spot and veins so it may be o.k. We were planning to put it under our other hen that is sitting when PJ's eggs hatched.

To add to the grief of loosing the little baby we get up this morning to find our white polish dead. She had been acting a little funny the past few days. Our little Sebright roo was standing right by her. So sad. This is the same Polish that had the broken egg in her a while back and recovered. She was doing well and all of a sudden this happens. We think she may have had another broken egg in her. She layed a soft shell egg right before she started acting funny. She was my daughters and she loved that boufant headed chicken. It was hard to tell her this morning.

Under that little Blue Cochin is one of the White Polish hens eggs. It is only about a week along. Hopefully it will be a good one and hatch out a boufant headed hen for us.
The other Ameraucana egg under her so far is showing no signs of hatching. We figured yesterday as a hatch date, but so far notthing. It is all dark when we candle it.
