Lipstick "Rasta"

Bryan, TX(Zone 8b)

I wondered if anyone has seen this plant for sale. It is a gorgeous plant and is identified as Aeschynanthus radicans "Rasta". If it hadn't had that label on it I would have bet money it was a hoya. Leaves look almost like the Hindu Rope but not as solid a leaf. It's one of the "Angel Plants" which seem to put any name on things that aren't always correct. If you do a web search on Lipstick "Rasta" several pictures will show up. Let me know your opinion.

When I bought it at Lowe's last nite I was so excited that I'd found another Hoya only to read the label and be wrong.

I have had this plant for awhile it is a lipstick.

I have this plant but it has been neglected lately! It's been hiding behind something on the deck and missed getting watered! It needs some TLC desperately! The growth habit is rather unusual and neat!

Logee's catalog has a Aeschynanthus Radicans 'Crispa' that may be what you have. I 've just started collecting the Lipstick plants, I have a pink one about to bloom.

I used to have one labeled A. 'Crispa': http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/112681/

I think the one in Logee's Catalog: http://logees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=T5013-2 is actually A. 'Rasta'

I love that one, too...had a 'small plant' (barely rooted cutting purchased via ebay) about 3 years ago when it first became available, and it croaked:(

There was one for sale at a grocery store (with floral dept.) around Valentines Day and they wanted $30 for it! Thanks, but no thanks for that price!

It surely does look similar to H. compacta, but if you have the two side by side, it's easy to tell the difference.

I'm curious...those of you that have the 'Rasta'...has it bloomed for you? If so, what are the characteristics?

Logee's doesn't *always* have their 'other than begonia' plant names correct, so theirs could very well be 'Rasta', as Lin pointed out.

Nan: Here's what the blooms on my A. 'Rasta' looked like: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/176351/

You people that have the Rasta available to you are lucky!- That one's been on my wishlist for a while! I can find EAs at several places in town but have never seen that one at any of them for some reason.
Lin- Your pic of it and the blooms is beautiful!

Thank, Lin! Very nice!

I guess I missed that sharonbanister pointed out in her original post that it was Aeschynanthus radicans "Rasta", so I suppose I should have guessed the blooms would be nearly identical to the common A. radicans!

Thanks for confirming the identification as Aeschynanthus radicans "Rasta" and for posting the pics with flowers. I have several other lipsticks and will just add this one to the collection. Sure did think it was mislabeled.
