Diamond Doves

Talihina, OK

Is there anybody who knows where I can buy some of these little guys in Oklahoma, or a breeder who will ship them at a resonable price? I would love to have a pair or two of them to put in the flight cage with my button quail. Thanks guys.

Talley I had some many years ago. I got mine at a pet shop.

I bought one at a bird fair several years ago, but have not seen any since. Petco has them, but I'm not giving the $65 they want. I know I can find cheaper and better quality through a breeder. That is the only pet shop I have seen them in. Thank you very much for the idea.

I got mine in the late 1990's and I know I paid under $10. each I can't imagine they're worth $65.!!!

Found this link:

The one for $20 per pair won't ship, and yes Stromberg's is always very high on all their birds. Thanks for all the help and more leads welcome.

Thanks a million Molly! I have found some and am waiting on some emails from breeders. I found one that ships for sure and she is in Texas. That will work great since I'm only in Oklahoma. I appreciate all the help. Now if I can find a couple pair of finches my aviary will be complete. You guys have been a great help.

LOL okay what kind of finches?

Zebra perferrably but Society would work. Something hardy because they will be outside with the buttons and the D. Doves. I think I can find some of them locally, but one of the dove breeders I found who ships also raises finches. I know it sounds like I want a lot, but I've always wanted a small aviary with finches, buttons, and diamond doves. You guys have been a great amount of help to me. Thanks for all the info and support, anybody else would have told me I wanted too much.

That's not wanting too much! I didn't know zebras and society finches could take your winters outside?! I always thought they were delicate. I've had both. Hand raised a clutch of zebra finches when the parents abandoned them. They were so small I couldn't tell which end to feed till they opened their mouths. Looked like fuzzy caterpillars!

They can if they have been kept outside and you protect their cage from the elements, plastic and a heat lamp. Zebras are hardier so they do a little better, but Societys will do okay. How in the world did you manage to hand feed finch babies? You have way more patience then I could ever imagine. Congrats on such big task.

talley_wacker they were too small for any pipette I could find so I took a bamboo skewer and push the food into their little mouths. Tough was holding onto them. They're so tiny and frail that I had a problem holding them tightly enough so they wouldn't fall and not so tight that I might hurt them. Not a job I EVER want to repeat!!!!!

That is amazing. It takes a special kind of person to do that kind of a job, and for all of them to live, even better.

I think plumb crazy is a better description talley_wacker ! LOL Or so I was told. Yes all 6 survived. I was so tired of them by the end that I sold them and their parents. That's the last time I had any zebra finches!!
