CLOSED: A Big Bird in the Tree Tops that has me Stumped!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I thought this was either the Cuckoo or the Catbird that I saw yesterday, but when I saw the photos, I realized that it must be something else. It's back is a reddish brown like the Cuckoo but it doesn't have the white spots on the tail and it appears to have two white wing bars.

I have about four photos that I cropped a lot! I hope they are not too blurry. It was way up in the tree top and it moved around fast like a warbler eating bugs but it was a much bigger bird.

Now I've confused myself with my photos, so I may just upload more than four! I was confused. I uploaded the same photo. Sorry. Wish I could edit that!

Wow, I think I really was confused because now that I'm looking at the photos again, I only see one wingbar. Thanks for any help you can offer!

I fear it is just a female House Sparrow!

I was just sitting outside looking at a house sparrow and thinking that exact thing! Too funny! Thanks!

Elphaba - I am glad I am not the only one. Yesterday in fact I took about 12 shots of a bird I did not recognize and was so excited. Then when I cropped on the computer, I realized exactly the same thing. Female house sparrow. What a disappointment! I was sure it was something new and exciting. The thing is, in my haste, I reach for the camera before the binoculars, just in case it flies away before I can get a pic. This led to my confusion, I think. I should use the binoculars first, but then there is the risk of no picture of something that really is new!

Claire

Well at least it is a bird!

I took a bunch of photos of a new bird perched on my neighbors garage door, all excited because even though I couldn't quite make it out I just knew my photos would reveal a new one for my life list. It is a couple of years later now and I can still feel the disappointment when my photos revealed a new one alright... a light fixture. It was time for a new eyeglass prescription. Then there was the time I took photos of a new bug only to later realize it was lizard poo.

Angele - that's priceless! Thank you for a good giggle! I guess we all have our moments!

Angele...ROFL!! That is priceless!! Just recently I managed to get a great shot of a clump of leaves in the treetop!! LOL!

Claire...I alway shoot first as I'm always certain it will be my only chance to get a pic of THIS bird!!

Elphaba...Don't feel badly...I just had one ID'd thinking it was a female Indigo Bunting!! Also had a female Cowbird ID'd thinking it was a female Blue Grosbeak! Geez...my face got red...but we all do it so we are all in good company!!

Time for a group hug, lol.

It would have been priceless if somebody had gotten my picture as I photographed that lizard poo from every angle to make sure I could identify that bug. Very scientific.

Is there a lizard poo identification forum? LOL!! What species of lizard was it from?!

Yes always grab the camera and get a pic! I have had several wonderful surprises the last couple of weeks when I download that camera!!

Photography is like a box of chocolates :-)

LOL! Thanks y'all. I loved your stories! I'm doing the opposite now. This morning every bird I saw I thought, "that's probably just a house sprrow!" Poor house sparrows. They get no respect.
