Purina site has a SMALL alert:
Eastern U.S. Feed Product Retrieval

Land O’Lakes Purina Feed LLC has implemented a voluntary product retrieval of certain feeds manufactured between November 3, 2007 and February 8, 2008 at our Statesville, N.C., feed plant; between January 1, 2008 and February 8, 2008 at our Harrisburg, Penn., feed plant; and between January 1, 2008 and March 10, 2008 at our Guilderland, N.Y. plant.

This voluntary retrieval was initiated due to the possible presence of aflatoxin contamination above acceptable levels.

To date, we have received no confirmed aflatoxin-related animal health complaints involving any of the retrieved products. Nevertheless, we have taken such precautionary action as our utmost priority continues to be our customers and the well-being of their animals.

All dealers who purchased any of the retrieved products directly from Land O’Lakes Purina Feed LLC have been notified. These dealers are located in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and
West Virginia.

Our investigation and product testing identified one ingredient of concern, which originated from a single supplier. We have discontinued purchasing from this supplier. Other feed companies that purchased from this supplier are facing a similar situation.

For more information about specific products included in the retrieval, contact the Statesville, N.C., Feed Plant at 704-924-5100 or the Harrisburg, Penn., Feed Plant at 717-737-4581.

I am not sure i just recieved it from another group so I thougt I should cross post in case someone feeds Purina, I found a great place not far from me that sells their own organic feed. I switched from another grain, Poulin, to them.

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

I'll have to ask Paul if that Senior is one we were feeding Buck :-(

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

hmmmm. cheer up Molly, i dont' think you were feeding the PUrina brand, it's in a thread here somewhere...

Good news, it is made by Blue Seal, not Purina. and while i was there i noticed they have a goo dvariety of organic feeds for poultry!

so, this is a good alternative. in order to be labeled Organic feed, it cannot contain ANY [none, zippo!] GMOs, which means it is less likely to have corn, esp the kind of corn that site for months on end in the fields due to lack of storage facilites, therfore increasing the likelihood of molds growing in it...

a few years ago i spent a GREAT DEAL of time researching the causes for all this recalled feed products... and that is it in a nutshell -- excellent corn harvest in the Midwest, resulting in the need to store it outside, covered in tarps...

Well we used Vintage Gold but Paul also fed him something with the name Senior in it. I just don't know what brand it was. I'm hoping it was Dumor and not Purina.

you sure don't need insult added to injury...

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

true.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i just got through searcing their site. no dealers around here, DH coudlnt' believe it, as he is familiar with them, they have been seeling feed for like 140 years! so i asked DH if i should become a dealer and re-open the feed store here. boy, did he laugh hard!

i meant to post a link to share with others who need another source of feed. there is a dealer locator at the top, but it only searches within 25 miles of you. funny, there ain't NOTHIN within 25 miles of me except a walmart...

http://www.blueseal.com/livestock/poultry/feedprg.php

that is all the poultry feed, both organic and non-organic. it sounds yummy!

I just went out and checked our chicken layer feed. I just bought 2 50# bags of it today. It was different than what I had been getting. It is Country Acres 6514 0009876 layer 16%. I live in western AR I wonder if I should call someone about it. The bag has VAB on it so it's not one of those sites mentioned in this recall. I was getting Country Acres 6520 0048305 layer 17% and I don't see it on the list. I have already gone to the manager of the feed store here and told I had too many fines in my scratch food. He told me they were using this brand a/c it is shipped in 50# bags like the feed that I had been getting for a long time. The company sold it for the same price as the first one but 10# less feed. All on a/c of the cost of transportation. Now I get the same 50# bag of feed for $3.00 more than the original and my chickens do not like it. I guess my chicks and I are too spoiled. Thanks for letting me vent. Marionr

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

what you just typed is exactly what is listed up there... your new feed IS from the recalled batch. return it and get your money back.

those recalls listed are from April. by now i am certain it has spread to west of the mississippi. and possible more recalled products than what is currently listed here.

you are welcome to vent, and you ahve a right to raise a stink about this with your feed store. coudl be a reason your chickens don't like feed with mold and dealy toxins in it...

tf

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Tf you listed Blue Seal. That's not Purina is it? Blue Seal is one we used a lot.

MollyD

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

marionr, I agree with TamaraFaye. You should return the feed and get your money back if you possibly can. That could be the reason the chicks don't like it.

GG

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

MD, Blue Seal is NOT purina...

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Okay I was confused there.
So many companies these days sell under different names.
