I'm in the Bryan College Station area where we've been deluged by rain the last two days. We'll only have a few days sun before it rains again. I'm in quite a bind! I am moving and have to take 43 roses with me, not to mention a YARD FULL of Texas Super Stars. My mom keeps telling me that digging and planting in wet soil will kill all all my plants. Can someone shed some light on this? Any suggestions on what to do? Help!!!
Planting, moving garden in the rain????????????????????
I sure do it a lot with no problems--this (yesterday) was the first day we've had any rain in at least a month. I'm getting all my late to get planted perennials done now, today. I think overcast skies are perfect for adjustments to new locations, just don't mess with the surrounding soil any more than necessary. Sometimes you have to move stuff and get it done when you can--99% of the time it works out just fine. Sure better to move stuff now than July-Aug, in my opinion.

I'm not in Texas, but I have had the best success moving plants in the rain. The root ball can be dug in a great big mucky clump and just replanted and the plants are completely unaware that they have been moved!!
I have moved plants in the rain here too... no problems in fact I only move some plants in the rain.
Me too Mitch. Some plants, especially the bigger ones, I will purposefully wait for a rainy day to move.
Well I am going to try it. I keep hearing stories about compacted soil but this is a dire need so I'm going to move them regardless. Should be interesting :) Thank you all so much for easing my mind!!!
I'm in Bryan too...forecast calls for clear skies from Wed through next Mon.
We moved 5 indian hawthorns today in rain. I find the rain to very benefitial once they are settled in their new spot.
Hi blue_eyes :) Proud to ya neighbor :) I'm moving all my plants from a clay yard to a decent soil yard. Never had planned on moving at all, but life can be funny!
