Bird dripper

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I have wanted one of those nice(and expensive) bird drippers for my birdbath for a long time, now, but my birdbath is not situated anywhere near a faucet, or an outlet...

The birdbath is in a focal area of the garden, so really didn't want to use a milkjug.

I found this at Costco, and really like it, because the spout can be adjusted to a slow drip, and it holds a whopping 2.5 gallons.

I have it hung on a cast iron support, and it is suspended in a metal hanging basket plant hanger.

The birds LOVE it! The birdbath has never seen so many bathers in all its years of sitting there. :0)

It has been really fun watching all the activity.

wow, that's really quite attractive.

What a creative idea! So is really a dispenser with a twist turn? Hmmmm. Where to find those in this neck of the woods.
And, you're right, that yard is NO place for a milk jug! So pretty.

Thank you both. :0)

If I REALLY could have my way, I would have one of these:

or these:

oh, rats!

I just found this one:

that would save me from having to refill it...

Maybe I'll buy that for the other birdbath out front...:0)

Yours is gorgeous though and fits your setting perfectly!

I don't know how I missed the one at Duncraft, I'm looking at their solar fountains all the time, thanks for the link.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I agree, yours really fits in that landscape. Like it's some old world contraption. I like it.

Marlton, NJ

I agree!

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I cannot take any credit for the idea...it is adapted from the idea that I originally saw here:

Well thanks for sharing. We get our inspiration where we can! I'd do this myself (stealing your idea), but I am going to put in a rock fountain in July or so.

Lawrenceville, GA

Well, take credit, missy.... yours is A LOT prettier.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, you should call a patent idea right here and now!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

What a beautiful and practical idea, thanks for sharing I really love it!

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

That's awesome!

I LOVE your CostCo dripper!! But I don't have access to a Costco. sob. Could you get the name off the box or dripper for me? I have luck finding things on the internet!

Last year, I found this item, a mister, that dogs are supposed to love. Um hm. Well, not my dogs........The thing makes a slight hissing noise that they didn't care for. (But....but....it will add to your comfort.......) So, I wrapped it around my stoic St. Francis statue in the largest bird bath. For a few days, the birds probably thought it was a snake, but once they got used to it, they LOVED it!

(FYI, I found this site, looking for the original Misty Mates for a young Marine in Iraq. He said it was a huge help.)

Orchard Park, NY

I just love your dripper TX. Very charming. The little birdie fountains look very inviting.

Mima-
I'd have been happy to look on the box for you, but the recycle trash has already gone out :0(

If I go to costco and they still have them, I'll look for you. I know it was tagged as a beverage dispenser, so maybe you could google beverage dispenser?

A beverage dispenser??? How interesting! And that's a help. Thanks!

Thayer, MO(Zone 6a)

Ta dah!! $47 + s/h. Was Costco a whole bunch cheaper?

I looked around on the web for it too, didn't find it any place under $42

Thayer, MO(Zone 6a)

Sadie, one thing we need to be careful of is the spigot. This one TURNS, which is important to make sure it just drips. We have a 2-gallon crock for distilled water, and the spigot control FLIPS. It's either flowing or not......there's no adjusting the flow.

Seedpicker's setup is just gorgeous!!

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

Yes, that Charleston brand looks like it has the spigot that turns rather than flips.

You're not kidding about her set up being a gorgeous !!

Thayer, MO(Zone 6a)

Seedpicker, your setup looks like it's hanging from a bracket. Right? I'm wondering if this will be too heavy for a shephard's hook (a stand that fits into the ground, with a hook).

Marlton, NJ

I think that might be too heavy, maybe not at first but it would certainly bend over time.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Probably depends on the shepherd's hook quality. I have some lightweight ones and some heavy duty ones. Maybe get a double one and balance the back side with a plant. You know, I saw a lot of those beverage containers in mexico all painted brightly… that would also make a good addition to some gardens.

Thayer, MO(Zone 6a)

I think it's safe to say that several of us are on a mission...........
Thanks, Seedpicker!

Sorry, all...I said costco, and I was wrong...it was sams.

If you go to samsclub.com, then in the lefthand side, click "Spring entertaining guide", then click "view catalog"(small letters in the top pictucre title bar), it should bring you to here:

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?catg=11499

click to page 38. It is listed as mouth-blown glass, with a stainless steel lid. The sams price is $29.84, but it cost me more than that because my dues were up...so cost me more like 69.84, lol...

Here is a close-up of the cast iron hanger I have it hung on...water is something like 81/2 pounds per gallon?, so really heavy at 22 lbs., so please make sure you hang accordingly :0)

it is amazing how expensive some of these can be...

This one isn't even the right kind of spigot, but wanted to show it anyway because it represents a different thought...
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=335708

this is on a stand, so some of you having trouble with how to hang one, might consider something along these lines...a stand, such as a tall plant stand??
If I were looking for one to actually use for its intended purpose, though, this would be a really nice one. I like the ice chamber thingy

Thanks for sharing this!! This is brilliant!! And this will certainly work better and last longer than the solar birdbath I spent good money on last year, that worked for one month and then croaked during the heat of summer. Thanks Seedpicker.

Carla-
was it like this one that I posted earlier??

Mrs. Ed, I love those from Pottery Barn. For me, not the birds!

Seedpicker: Sam's????? YAY!! I'm going to my daughter's next week and there is a Sam's not far from her house. Along with a WBU! I'd better get that credit card paid off; I'll have a truckload of goodies when I leave.......

Gotta start my list.

Cortlandt Manor, NY(Zone 6a)

Simply Stunning!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well Mima, pick up one for you and one for the garden! I liked the idea of acrylic for breakage and weight issues.
