CLOSED: Welcome to the new Bird ID forum

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

While Dave finds time to work on a BirdFiles feature, this new forum will give us a place to identify all those birds we come across in our gardens and in nature!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks Terry!!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Hooray ~ I had looked for this in the past and am delighted! Thank you...

(Zone 1)

Anyone got any new birdies in their gardens that need identification? We just have the same ones around here we've always had. I love birds though so will definitely be watching this thread and hopefully learning about some new ones along the way!

(Zone 1)

Can't wait for the Bird Files forum some day! That will be probably my second favorite forum behind Plant Files. I have really been enjoying the Birdwatching forum and wishing I could take good photo's of birds like those folks do!
I finally got a picture of a Mocker in my backyard a couple of days ago and was so tickled that it sat still long enough for me to take it's picture!

I see that photo's can't be posted here on this forum, so if anyone has a bird they are trying to identify, I guess they will have to give a good physical description ... but, maybe admin can change it to allow a photo? As long as it doesn't end up with people posting lots and lots of pictures (which should be on the Bird Watching Forum.)

Thank you so much Terry. Are the bird id threads from the bird watching forum going to be moved to here?

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

This will be great! Although a place to download pictures would be awesome! LOL!

North Augusta, ON

hehehe...the ability to have photos is definitely a need here. I'm sure it was just overlooked and will be fixed soonest ^_^

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Yep - it was an oversight ;o)

I've moved some of the more recent ID threads to this forum to help get it started. If you find others, feel free to post links here and I'll be happy to move them ASAP.

North Augusta, ON

Thanks Terry!!

Marlton, NJ

Wow this was a surprise! Thanks Terry!

Is this temporary or permanent?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It's permanent - there are a tremendous number of ID threads I'm finding, so there's certainly enough support for this forum. And I know that Dave is excited about adding a BirdFiles when he's got the time to devote to building it ;o)

Marlton, NJ

Very good! Thanks Terry!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Yipee!

I do notice that there a good number of posts in the bird forum each week, so I'm sure this one will do well too.

North Augusta, ON

I wonder, should we have a "mark this thread closed" thing, like the Plant ID and Bug ID forums do?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes, I agree. It's on my list of things to ask Dave about ;o)

North Augusta, ON

^_^

Melbourne, FL

Thanks to all involved in bringing this about....it was fun looking back through all my posts asking for help to ID birds. I have learned a lot from the bird experts here.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow, this seems like such a lot of hard work. Thanks! I'm glad to know that I'm not as out-of-the-loop as I thought I was, since this forum is brand new! :)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

This is so nice! Even just having a seperate forum for IDing makes it so much easier to find. Maybe few les of those oops postings on the wrong thread that some of us tend to do! :)

Thanks!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Good news! Dave has added the open/closed capability to this forum - now you can mark your solved IDs as "closed"!
