New to Tuberose

Zanesville, OH(Zone 6a)

This is my first year for trying tuberose. I ordered 2 sets of bulbs from Select Seeds, one for the singles and one for the doubles (the bulbs for the doubles were much bigger than the singles). Please give me any advice you may have on how to care for these. Can I overwinter these in the pots in my basement or is there a different way that I should handle them?

The one (and pretty much only!) thing I know about them is that they need lots of heat in order to bloom well. So I'd put them in a nice hot sunny place in your yard. Also, the one year I grew them they didn't get around to blooming until very late in the summer, I want to say it was August/September so don't give up if it feels like they're taking forever to bloom.

Don't' bury them too deep - full sun is a plus - start fertilizing when you see growth...if the bulbettes are mature you should have blooms Aug/Sept.

In your climate, give them an early start by planting now in a pot and transplanting them in the garden when the soil temp gets warm, either in the pot or out of it, or they will bloom the day before your first frost and the flowers will freeze. I had that happen two years ago and it was heartbreaking. Our first frost is about Oct 7.
