Aphids on my peppers

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

I have 6 pepper plants in an EB that sits beside 22 tomato plants, 4 zukes and 4 cukes. Everything is doing well but for some reason the aphids are having a blast with the peppers. We spray often with Ortho but they keep coming back. Any tricks that might help?

Thanks

Araness so how do your Aphids grow now. I have never seen a Texas Aphid but suppose they are big as stump grinders lol.

lol well they might not be bigger than your normal aphid but they sure are determined! We've tried the soap, as well as chemicals and they turn around and come right back with a vengeance! We've been able to limit the damage so the plants are still healthy, but now it's personal.

Araness, do they look like this? These little devils are decimating one of my pepper plants that's about two years old and covered with peppers. I've never seen these particular ones. Anyone know what they are?

Yep, that's the lill suckers. We've had rain daily for the last few days so I hope it clears a bit so we can spray all the plants before we go out of town.

Try releasing some ladybugs.

humm and where might one buy ladybugs? And how do you keep them in your yard?

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Legend has it that to keep lady bugs home wyou must release theme at midnight while dancing naked in the light of the moon LOL.

Legend also has it that if you spray them with coke in a mister bottle it will stick their wings down for a few days and then they will stick around as long as they have food and water.

BTW i was to smart to join the dance troope

You can buy ladybugs at most nurserys and they stick around as long as there is food. You might need to release them a few times oer the season.

And yes, as eweed has mentioned, you must realease them at midnight, while dancing naked in the moonlight, but only after you have sacrificed one of your children/pets/significant other to Mother Nature

Lord, y'all are a funny bunch! I'd go for the ladybugs, too. I've bought them at Home Depot and nurseries usually have them in spring. As it gets hotter, it's harder to find them. I put 'em in the fridge and take the bag out after dark, give it a mist, open it up and sprinkle 'em among the most aphid-ridden plants. Usually, the next morning, you'll find they're busy chomping away. Of course, some fly away but you can also buy ladybug attractant and even ladybug houses. I never have so can't say if that works. For some reason this year, I have a bunch I didn't buy so someone near me must have. ;O)

might I ask what one should pay for ladybugs? Wouldn't want to get ripped off, do they come in packs of doz? Hundred? I can just see me telling the DH...humm I see a problem...what happens when I have to spray for other bugs on the tomatoes...rut row...Lady Bug murder.

You should be able to pick up a carton for under $10 at the garden center or nursery. Not sure how many are in each pack. They come in 1/2 pint ice-cream containers. Of course, you could go turn over a new leaf and become a champion of ladybugs and turn your yard into a ladybug sanctuary ;-)
