I found a post on Craigslist last week about Dr. Earth Fertilizer on a 2 for 1 deal, so I contacted them about it. Turns out that it is a place called "The Yard Works" 15919 Hwy 99 North. They used to sell greenhouses and sheds there but have decided to do it from Whidbey Island now. So they are closing out the remaining stock of stuff, no green houses, but garden decorations, some shop furnature, some DE fertilizer, miscellaneous greenhouse needs, interesting pots of various sizes, and such.

I was able to score the floor model of a cedar potting bench for $70, and a couple of bags of fertilzer for another $20.

You can contact them via the website, www.theyardworks.net or carol@theyardworks.net. They are not there all the time anymore, so contact them before you go.

I have something to say about yardworks. In 1988 I went to the state and register yardworks landscaping and maintenance in the state of Washington. The lady said are you going to work in the Seattle area I said no why. She said their is another company named the yard works and they sell greenhouses and we don't want any confusion and I said no problem.

In 1998 I had the nursery with another lady and she quite and I chose a name of dragonfly farms nursery and their was no other nurseries or landscapers with that name so I thought cool. Now 2007 driving on Bainbridge and here is a truck with every space on it advertising dragonfly design. I was upset. I knew of the lady who worked at bainbridge gardens and she knew my nursery name was dragonfly and she is playing off my name and hard work. All the topsoil companies and other suppliers are getting us mixed up. There are 4 dragonflies in Kitsap county. Then there is another company with a bad reputation that came up with the name cornerstone yardworks and is calling themselves yardworks.

This is a problem with the state of Washington. When I registered in 1988 they tried to watch the close names and now they don't care.

Anyways good score analog, Just had to vent a little. That's why in the sunset thing the writer wrote not to be confused with another landscaping company. 4 same name companies in the same county too much.

I was thinking about your post this morning CD, and it dawned on me that there is a line about those that create must remember that people copying it are handing you a compliment. I cannot remember what the quote was exactly, but I am sure that some PNW member will.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"? It may be true, but sometimes is so irritating, nonetheless. I can't always see it that way.

Thanks Katie, that is the quote I remember....

So, Rob, did you initiate your potting bench today?

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Yep. Its been working for me, since I got it on the deck yesterday.

I reseeded my veges, which were absolutely trashed by the big snow storm, so I restarted them after digging out the guts of the old plants.

Then I potted up a bunch of seeds I got in a trade not long ago: Hardy Hibiscus, Ipmoea alba (Moonflower), Callicarpa dichotoma (Purple Beauty Berry), and one plant that only came with a picture of the flower. The flower (inflorescence) is really odd: white petals, with flowers radially around the top of the stalk of the plant.

How nice to have a spot for that work without having to sit on the ground, and get hunched over. It came with a nice simple hutch, the top of which is going to be primo for brining some of my smaller cacti and succulents out into the sun in a few weeks.

Now, if I only had a greenhouse wrapped around it, say 10x12 with thermostatically controlled vents and humidity. Just get me a nice bed away from the mister and everyone would know where to find me. I would end up living like the guys who ran Baker and Chantry Orchids years ago. You just walked into these nice warm, humid airy greenhouses to find all sorts of plants from orchids to epiphytic cacti, and geraniums happily blooming, with several folks hanging around holding court.

That would be the life.
