pics of two wk old silkies, and new chicks.

Walpole, NH

First pic is of a chick that I was told was a black astralorp. I dont remember my astralorps looking like this as babies. Its been a couple of days since I took this pic, the feathers on the wings are coming in black and white. Seems odd for astralorps. What do you think?

Jana, the first picture is a Black Australorp. That's what I have and all of them look like that when they are first hatched. Their first feathers come in black and white, and then turn all black as they get older. Mine are now almost 4 weeks old and are getting their all black plumage.

Here is a picture of my Black Australorp hatchlings just a day old.

It looks like my BA chicks too--they always have white until the last molt. The Silkies are adorable!

Great looking bunch! My cuckoo marans/silkie is starting to feather out and is getting a fluffy tail and top knot!! That is going to be one different looking bird. Its funny how they look one way when they are young and a totally different way a couple of weeks later.
My black australorp has more white than my white faced black spanish! Talk about confusing.
Congrats on your bunch!

Thanks! The black astralorp chicks are so cute! I think they are one of my favorite looking chicks! My silkies are starting to get their feathers in. They are looking so goofy! I love the gray one. She has such a wide stance when she walks and sits. She waddles! Cant wait to keep watching them get bigger!

I will try to take another picture tomorrow (if I remember). They are almost totally black now.
