I don't know. This is the first year that I have grown it. I am doing some research to find out but in the meantime does anyone know how to tell when it is ripe?

I've never grown one either. I think I'd check out the ones in the grocery and wait till mine looked like that!

Acording to what I read there are three things you can use to tell if the squash is ripe 1. You wait until the green stripes become faint and the squash turns yellow. 2. The stem turns dry and tan. 3. Scrape your fingernail on the skin. When the squash is ripe the skin dries out and toughens so that your fingernail won't cut through it.

Here I am, all grown up and ready for dinner. I am 10" long
