Eastern Market Flower Day - May 18

Willis, MI

Just curious to see how many of you are going to the Eastern Market Flower Day? I have never been there, but my boss keeps talking about it. Is it worth fighting the crowds?

What is it & where is it???

When I lived downstate I used to go every year with my friend and her sisters. It was a yearly tradition. We'd have breakfast down there and walk around looking at all the flowers. It is crowded but it is a fun day. You will get to see many varieties of plants and can pick and choose. I used to walk through and look at everything then make my decisions on what I wanted to purchase. We always carried a pull behind wagon with us to put our plants in and carried fanny packs or small wallets to free up our hands instead of lugging big purses around. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Have fun! I live too far away to go now. I have many fond memories of the Eastern Market. I am 57 years old but when I was just a little girl my parents used to take me down there where they would buy bushels of pears and peaches and other produce. Mom would then work hard to put them all up in jars. My mouth waters when I think of her pear preserves. She'd bring up a jar from the basement on a cold winter morning and make hot biscuits to put the preserves on. Yum!! Our trips down there would be later in the season when the produce would be coming in. I'm not sure if they had a "flower day" back then. I was too little to remember that.

By all means go. Take a friend or two and make a day of it and make it a tradition.
