This has come up in my clump of Mickey Mouse ears (Xanthosoma atrovirens 'Variegatum Monstrosum'). The leaves are turned up along the edges and thicker than the centers. Almost like a canoe.
Odd Mickey Mouse ears coming up!
I have been growing this for some time as well. It is as you said a mutation off of Xanthosoma albo marginata. The leaves are still unstable and it has yet to flower. One botanist was calling it parodoxica I am sure this is not the species name but just a name for this odd mutation that forms at times. I find that it is stable in its form but a bit weak and slow.
How cool is that! Do any of your leaves show any variegation? None of mine have thus far.
I had 3 seperate mutations two from my plant and one from a friends non have shown signs of variegations. The thought of the botanist was it maybe a sport trying reverting back to the origional species. This is interesting to him sense no one has ever been able to properly ID this plant sense it has not flowered for no one on record, either form. The botanist was hoping this form may have better luck in flowering. I have yet to get a flower and as the photo shows from last season I grew it out fairly well. I have noticed on most of mutated forms that one of the back lobes are almost always missing. My idea of albo marginata is that it is either a mutation or a mutated seedling off of Xanthosoma atroverins. The odd thing about the plant is this last year I had a botanist / scientist who specializes in variegations and mutations in plant cells visit the nursery he said that the cupping of the leaves on Albo marginata is more than just a mutation. It seems it is a very unusual structure and that it is very stable in producing them. He is writting a article on the leaves of this plant. Once it is out I will post a copy of his article as it should be very interesting to learn more about this plant and why it is what it is.
Intresting, Ill be a watchen
Thanks!

Me, too.
