When we had a senior kitty who was underweight several years ago, a vet suggested we supplement his diet with meat-flavored baby food. Since the cat in question was a tough, crunchy old coot, we decided to call it baby-MAN food to avoid any embarassment on Max's part.
Max is sadly no longer with us - he was already old and very beat up when I adopted him from the Humane Society. When Russ and I got married, Max was the first "old-man cat" that he had ever had (I was a long-time OMC adopter), and Max changed his life. His love for Max helped him be even more understanding of older people with health and mobility issues. My sweet Max had a broken ear (bent to one side), hair standing on end, a surly expression and his tail & back were crooked from breaks in three places each. In other words, he was gloriously handsome. Since Max looked tough but acted sweet, it was a great example of looking beyond appearances.
