good fertilizer for mandevilla? hibiscus food?

Houston, TX

I have been told that hibiscus food does well for mandevilla. I have a Nutri Star 10-4-12 "hibiscus food" that I may try on my mandevilla. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I, too, would be interested to know. I was told that hibiscus food was really good for most real tropicals such as hibs. and mandevillas and the like since the middle number is low..

In early spring, begin feeding it with a 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 (I use Peter's) plant food to encourage new growth. Then when the plant has started a lot of new growth, switch to a 10-20-10 or 20-30-20 formula to encourage blooms. I do not recommend Miracle Grow fertilizer. Feed every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing season. It needs small doses of fertilizer since you can cause fertilizer burn and because you do not want a lush plant with no blooms. Use a diluted application each time if it is in a pot.
