Dandelion Flowers-safe for chicks?

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Are dandelion flowers safe for the little chickies? I was going to pick a couple as a treat-we do not use chemicals on our lawn-but thought I should see if it is safe first! Thanks, Sue :-)

Ive been tossing in all the dandelion plants I yank up and mine love them. Gives them something to entertain themselves.

Sue people eat young dandelions so should be safe for chickens.

I've fed them to my chicks and they are non the worse. I think they should be very good for them.

They're rich in vitiamin A

I don't know much about ducks, but dandelions grow everywhere and wild ducks are out there too. It is my experience with my chickens is that if something is not good for them, they steer clear of it. I would assume it's the same with ducks. I know for humans they are very rich in vitamins and made a good green. Now, I've never had them....so don't be asking me how to cook them... ha, ha... I've just heard.

Thanks everyone! Sorry to be so long in responding. My hard drive bit the dust and this is the first time I've been able to get to the library. I've missed everyone!!

Totally edible, just bitter if too old. Go for it.

missed you Sue!

i found some true dandleions today and picked a whole basket full! asked the lady to save some puffs when they grow back out and go to seed.... the chickens love them, and don't gobble them or over eat, so i should have a little left for the goats...

this thread remiended me, and i bought them some dandelion tea...

before i found some dandelions in the flesh LOL
