or Cassia surattensis var. suffruticosa.
PF info, see: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/64960/ .
This small subtropical shrub produces intense blooms of bright yellow flowers year-round, even throughout the winter. It's foliage is evergreen and its growth rate is moderate. A mature height and spread is 15'-20’ x 15'-20’. It can be pruned to create an outstanding small tree making it ideal as an accent for small landscapes. It will take drought and can stand short frosts. Blooms are followed by brown seed pods (fruit). Its flowers will attract butterflies. Hardy in USDA zones 8b-11.
The source plant for these seeds, shown here, is allowed to simply bush out every year - - the owner severly cuts these back to 2 feet in early February (zone 8b) to keep the height under 15'.
Gently scarify (nick) the outer coating of each seed and soak 18-24 hrs. in water prior to sewing at a depth of approx. 1 cm (3/16 inch).
AVAILABLE NOW - - packets of approx. 100 seeds

ŁazŁo hope you are totally better and stay on the healthy wagon.
i sent you some sase s for 2 different cassia and something else i cant rember back in march and you got sick. now that you are back have these been sent??? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/815702/
Hi Lazlo, I am so glad you are back! Take it easy tho :o)
I sent you sase afew mos ago for the sunshine seeds, did you receive them?
Will this plant grow in an area that doesn't get much direct sun. I have an area between my house and the neighbors that I am trying to plant with shrubs for screening but there are large trees (pines, oaks) around it and it only gets filtered sun most of the day.

I have only seen this plant growing out in the open, in full sun exposures. The PF for this senna says that it will thrive in partial shade. Let's just say that it sure can't hurt to try it, right? The growth will probably be slower with shade, but you could start it off in a large container in a sunny spot and then transplant it into your shadier spot later on . . . Were it my puzzle to solve, I would do the container and transplant in the late fall.

Thanks. That is the way I garden. Try it and see if it works!
I'm sending you an SASE, but if you see something you want on my tradelist, let me know! Thanks
you have dmail!!
Hi Lazlo glad youa re feeling better. That is a long time to be sick!!
Thought I would check and see when you were sending out the one from back a couple of months ago.
i havent gotten any of mine yet from monthys ago yet either. everything still ok
me either... but I'm patient :o)
I think Don traded in the stamps, loose postage , for money and went on vacation.
Where can you go for $26? Lets see. $3 gas back then so he could have made it 26/3=8 2/3 gallons. Lets say 22 mpg so he could have gone something like 200 miles. round trip he could have made it to San Antonio. ???????? Nice enough place but...
Okay my theory isn't holding up well.
LOL
roflmao!
hehehehe
I wasnt so worried about the stamps... but I really really wanted the seeds :o(
so funny!
lazlo......... good your better. did you get my dmail on the 10th?
dear everybody -
little did i know but i was nowhere near well back when i wrote before - went right back to the V.A. hospital the next day.
hopefully i was able to locate all the mail that was sent to me for the Sunshine Tree seeds with self-addressed envelopes and stamps.
yesterday - monday, june 30th - i replied with oodles of seeds to all who requested those seeds. they are in the wind to you . . . expect them NLT this friday. i shall also send seeds to anyone who notifies me by dmail - after friday - that stamps and an envelope were sent to me but seeds were not received . . . after all, my absconding to hondo, tx. did not use up all the value of the stamps i received. btw - i had a good chuckle over that one, Corey!
i am very sorry the seeds will be in your hands so late . . . the good news is that they store well and can be germinated up to four more years from now. so though they canna be pretty for y'all in 2008, all is not lost.
but seriously, i just could not avoid the delay of the delay - all has been out of my control until yesterday. gawd! my poor garden looks so ratty and neglected! nevertheless it seems as beautiful as the gardens at Kew when compared to the view i have had for these months at the V.A. hospital up in temple, tx. thankfully all is on the upswing now . . . even dropped 42 pounds since way back then in february.
life began in a garden . . . and sometimes a cardiac unit is a garden, too.
all the best to you! ~ Łaz

Awesome glad to see you back on your feet! Stay well!
LazLo, you sound like me. Had back surgery and 2 days later I was out in the garden. Don't over do it, take care of self.
Do you have any seeds left? You gave me some last year along with the pride of barbadoes but nothing grew. Would like to give it a try again.
Will send you stamps -either way, keep the stamps for your kindness and willingness to share.

Lazlo,
Got the seeds today. Thanks so much! Am retiring in September and planning on fun times in the garden next spring. Trying to maintain in this heat! Should I plant them in pots or in the ground next spring?
Bonnie
glad you are back to feeling better! I'll watch the mail. Thanks for the update.

Bonnie - - you can start them in a winter sowing project or you can put them into the soil after the last frost - - in Conroe, that's around Christmas, right? ;-)
best plan is to slightly nick 'em or scarify them with a fine grade sandpaper - be gentle and watch out for your fingertips! give them a soak in room temp water for 12-24 hrs. prior to sowing.
if you want these to develop into small tree shrubs be sure to give 'em room when you select the seedlings for planting . . . in our climate these can get over 15 feet in height and around 20 ft. in diameter of ground covered. your mileage will vary according to your pruning method.
ATBTY! ~ Łaz
