You go out on your porch at night to take a picture like this.....
you know you're in Texas when.....
Yes, they do like to hang around, don't they?
gotta love the cute critters
Pretty funny Unique Treasures. When my DD was 5 she took out the trash and found a possum in the trash can outside.. She went back in the house and went to DH with her hands on her hips and said "Dad, there's a very very big mouse in the trash can!" We had just moved here and she had never seen one before.
Yeah I think that this one has been hanging around for awhile. Son used to live with me and one morning he heard a scratching at his window which opens to the porch. He assumed it was one of the cats bec. that's the way one of them let him know that he wanted in. He opened the window (no screen) to let him in, and it was this fellow. Needless to say DS shut the window in record time. lol

Lol....we had one of these in the barn when I was a kid, he used to drink milk with the barn cats. He wasn't scared of people and he would eat right beside the cats. We called him 'Waddles' because he was a bit pudgy from all the milk.
These photos are priceless folks, AND the stories to go along with them.
We haven't had any possums show up around here since we switched from cats to dogs. They used to come around regularly for the cat food.

Aaawww....love all the pictures.
I put food out for them. I just love them. The raccoons too.
Several years ago, my husband was doing some work around the house. There was a small door in our bedroom closest that he had to crawl through in order to get to the attic. One night, I heard a rustling of papers at my desk, and I yelled out, "Cat, get out of my papers." I got up to shoo away the cat, only it wasn't the cat, it was a possum. I apologized for calling it a cat, and backed away. It looked at me, then walked to the closet and climbed back thru the hole. My son, who was about 2 or 3 at the time, looks up at me and says, "that wasn't the cat Mommy."
Hubby was required to replace the door immediately.
I did the same thing one night on the phone in front of my porch window. I had a garbage bag on the porch and kept hearing rustling. I, too, thought it was a cat, and ran outside to shoo it away. I was facing the first, up-close possum I'd ever encountered! It wasn't the cat!
Similar story here - dog alerted us to something outside - opossum on the fence - looked huge - it was It took up residence in the garage for a while, but left there to build a nest under the neighbors deck - delivered a litter every year - but disappeared 3rd year - one of the offspring took over the nesting spot, but was only there one season. Kind of miss seeing them.
Pod, love the DH's comment about bringing a date. Too funny!
