Texas Star Hibiscus

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I'd really like to grow this. For those of you that have experience with this plant, would it do well growing near the drain for the AC? My DH thinks that the refrigerated water that drips out would be too cold for it. Also, how much sun does it need? The spot I'm thinking of planting it is on the east side of the house and doesn't get hours upon hours of direct sunlight.

I don't know if the hibiscus would grow there, but I bet elephant ears would if you get one that likes morning sun. We planted elephant ear where our AC drains and it was very happy except that it needed more light. It's on the north side of our house. We never water it and it starts growing only after the AC comes on the spring.

You get more blooms with more sun. I do not find it needing that much water but in east Texas we usually get a good bit of rain other than July-Aug. Once established it can take the dry heat we get.

Mine is on the east but not extra water. Grows about 6-7' tall every summer and blooms and blooms and blooms. Dies to the ground and comes back from the root next spring. No blooms yet. Nights have been to cool yet.
