My beautiful Texas Gold columbines are almost finished blooming and going to seed. Can I clip the seed pods and let them dry indoors or should I let them dry out on the plant and hope I catch all the pods? I'd like to save some seeds to give away and to start new plants for another area of my yard.

Harvesting Columbine Seeds
I let mine stay on the plant as they mature at different times, if you look at the seed pod you will see that the top will partially open revealing the seeds when the pod is mature.
At that point you can cut them carefully so as not to spill the seed, turn the pod upside down and the seeds will come out.
That way you can harvest gradually and get more seeds from your plant.
Josephine.
I noticed some were opening up yesterday. I took an old Cool Whip container with me outside, stuck it under the pod and clipped away so that the pod would fall into the container. The seeds are very tiny! Not what I expected at all! So, I'm on seed watch! LOL

Will they go to seed if there is just one flowering plant?
I know my native Hinckley's yellow which is different than the TX gold will not set seeds with just one plant--had to trade seeds from a friend near El Paso for more next year.
I have no idea! This is the first year they've bloomed for me, so the first year I've had seeds.
