This isn't a gardening topic, but I figure this is the best place to look for an answer. I have to drive up to Lubbock to pick up my DD from Texas Tech on the 5th of May. I need to get a hotel room, but I don't know much about Lubbock and don't want to wind up in a hotel in the high crime districts. So if anybody can give some advice, it would be much appreciated.
need info on hotels in Lubbock, Texas
I worked in Lubbock off and on for 14 years - stayed at the Sheraton 4-Points on Avenue Q. It is close to TT, but there is a nice hotel at the corner of 19th and University, that several other consultants used.
The remainder of the hotels worth staying at are on the loop, so several miles away.
You might try some of the "hotel" websites - might get a bargain.
We have a corporate rate at most chains, but I really did not care for the Marriott Courtyard in Lubbock.
At the 4-Points, I was the most frequent guest 3 years running, so had my own rate and LOTS of priveleges and extras from the staff.
Thanks Bubba. I'll put DH to work on reservations. I am trying to remember which exit I take from the freeway to get to the dorms. It's kind of nice the way they organized the campus because I think all the dorms are on the same side of the campus.
4th or 19th Street exits from IH 25.
4th will put you on the North side and 19th the South
Mary Lee, if you want to, you can stay on US 84 all the way to 19th St and turn left. The dorms are on the south side of campus, your right, a few blocks from where you turn onto 19th. If you do turn onto US 87/IH 27, exit at US 62/19th St and turn left.
We have stayed several times at the La Quinta, west of the campus and near the Tech Medical Center. It is safe with all interior rooms and easy to find. Turn right when you leave the campus and go several blocks on 19th until it runs into the Brownfield Hwy, US 82, and the motel is just ahead on your left at 4115 Brownfield Hwy.
One can see why Lubbock is nicknamed the Hub City as so many highways radiate like the spokes of a wheel. That made it easy for Mother to put us in the car and run from tornadoes when I was a kid!
Hope your trip is fun and safe!
Thanks ya'll for all the tips. I feel a lot better about picking a hotel when I have personal recommendations. DH had to go to SA today, so hopefully when he gets home he'll make some reservations. When I've gone up there before I went up 87 all the way. It was so easy to get there. I should have written down the hotel where we stayed, but of course I didn't.
DW and I have made that trip, too. We stayed in that motel at the far west end of Fredricksburg, then drove to Lubbock the next day.
Interesting trivia - there are two communities along US87 that look like the should be pronounced the same - Lawn, and Lohn.
