i bought a hoya - indian rope. it didn't give it's botaical name. I did learn that you can use it in a hanging basket. I want to know if it is a slow grower and how long it would take to bloom. It is in a 4in. pot now and would like to put it in a hanging basket. Any information you can give me would be appreciated.
Need info on Indian Rope Hoya
Hoya compacta-
Usually in a hanging basket but I wouldn't think that necessary. Kind of a slow grower for me and took a couple of years to bloom. For me anyway...LOL

If it's in a 4" pot now you don't want to pot it up to a much larger hanging basket. I think hoya's prefer tight roots so before you pot up, take a look at the roots on your plant before deciding to go with a hanging basket. I've never seen a hanging basket smaller than 6" in size and depending on the root system on your plant, that might even be too large.
You could always not pot it up, but put the pot it's in into a hanging basket and stuff pebbles around the sides for support. Hoya compacta is a very slow grower, and I've only transplanted mine 4 times in 15 years. My rule of thumb with carnosa and compacta is that I don't pot it up it until the spring after it blooms for the first time - and only if it absolutely needs it.

Thanks for the help. I did put it in a 6in. pot and not the hanging basket which is about 10 in. I thought about buying acouple or one more and then putting them all in the basket. What do you think?
Good idea ... they will enjoy each other's company! Hope you will post a photo of your little hoya! A 10" hanging basket is pretty deep though, I'd look for a smaller one ... @ 6". I know HD, Lowe's and even Wal-Mart sell those Exotic Angel plants in 6" and 10" hanging baskets. But, I can never find any of the empty smaller plastic hanging baskets for sale anywhere around here. If you have another plant in a small hanging basket, maybe you could switch it out and use the basket for the hoya plant?
I don't have a camera, but will ask a friend to take a picture. I've never seen a smaller hanging pot either. What if pu some of those popcorn things used for shipping in the bottom?
It's a very nice looking plant. It looks like it's already growing 2 vines so it would be nice just the way it is.
I have a solid green one and the compacta albomarginata (I think that's what it's called) like yours. They are both just single vines. I keep wanting to cut them and put the cuttings back in the pots so I'll have a vine coming down on each side but I'm reluctant to cut them. I find the albomarginata slower growing than the green one. Neither one has bloomed. I got the green one in Sept./05 and the albomarginata in Sept./06.
