Horsie has a Problem

I could hear him outside, having 'words' with another cat....he came inside a few minutes later, he looked like he had lost the fight..there were tufts of hair, sticking out, all over and he was, and is, very quiet. He is usually talking all the time...he appears to be favoring his left front paw....I felt him all over (made him mad) and I didn't feel any wounds, but bites sure hide well, in all that hair. I am watching him like a hawk...he just looks at me, when I talk to him....I asked DH to see if he would talk to him, and he says that Horsie did...I, don't even get a chirp!
