got peacock eggs, have questions asap

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I have been given some peacock eggs, not sure how many he'll give me, or sell me, but i've never incubated them before.

Can I use a chicken egg incubator?

what should I set it on , how long do they incubate?

howmuch water? in the bottom.

oh boy ! questions , questions. I'm so excited to have these eggs,

I thought I was done bringing in animals LOL

Lodi, United States

Okay, I found one answer...they incubate for 28 days! I would think the chicken incubator would work fine--now just have to find the right temp and humidity. Probably close to chicken or pheasant?

I got my incubator started to make sure it stays the same temp for several days.

The guy is going to give me all that they lay woopee!

Wanted to also know how long can they sit on the counter before I HAVE to put them in the incubator.

and what age are they when you can start telling the males from the females? I'm nervous about loosing the chicks to this incubator. it's the newest one I have. but that does't always seem to be a good thing. my last set of chicken eggs were horrid I lost over half of them.

I really would like to know about the water in there for humidity , when do I put it in and how much.

I know folks will come around and answer, I don't have to incubate the eggs right away, heck, I don't even have them yet, LOL but will soon

one other thing, I have 3 thermometers in there, all from the GQF manufacturer they all 3 say a different temperatures,
all off by a 2 or 3 degrees. will that make a diff ?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

gooness, ther will be slight diffs in temps in different area of the incubaotr, so try swithcing them around and see if they are the same difference. and see if you have any drafts in there or plugs that need closing...

and woohoo, congrats!

Just browsing and came across this forum. Congratulation on your peacocks. They are so amazing. My mother recently sent me this photo in an e-mail. Talk about beautiful .. I guess it is an albino..but stunning even without normal colors..

White peacocks are my favorite!

I had never seen one in all my days. How common are they? Is it particular species or are they actually albino?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

as far as i know, not albino, just a color. i saw one the first time about two or three years ago! haven't seen a white one since. most people want the colors...

Not familiar with peacocks at all. that picture is beautiful

I hope to have some questions answered from above today,

my friend doesn'tknow how long to set the eggs on the counter for before they have to go in the bator, and which end sits down, the small end? do they have to be turned like chicken eggs?

gosh I'm really nervous about this. I have to give 3 of them away. first off. 2 to the lady friend who's in this with me and one to the guy who is giving us the eggs. I hope I incubate plenty so I can have a pair LOL

I hear they are heavy flyers.

I am sure it is close to chickens, in that the big end goes up and probably 24 hours to 3 days on the counter is optimal. I am sure they need to be turned as well. I think it is just standard egg protocol.

Your peafowl can set out on counter as long a is not drafty or cold.
For up to two weeks,
Water in the cubator depends on the number of eggs temp needs to be around 99-100 degrees.
On each egg you need to mark an X turn it over an mark O. Each day you will turn these eggs, Lets say start with X in the morning, evening turn over to O. The eggs lay on the sides not top or end., A chicken or peafowl will turn her eggs several times a day but twice is good, REmember to keep water in and do not let water touch eggs.
Keep temp the same for the full 26-28 days.
I put my eggs in a strawberry basket, blue berry basket to keep them from rolling around. They will do this as they grow.
Don't put incubat. in a drafty place
Good Luck
