Is it Spring Fever?

I have two jersey giants that are getting broody. At first it was just the one who was sitting on her nest in the hen house. She hardly would get up to eat/drink and when I would force her out, she would just run back in to sit. After some time away from the nest, she stopped doing this and was back to her happy go lucky social self. Now, 3 months later, I have both hens doing this on two different nests. Those with hens, what do you do about your broody hens? FYI, I do not have roosters so no chance of baby chics!

Yep, its the season to be broody. I'm not sure what you do to stop the broodiness. We do have roosters so if ours go broody we let them. Our neighbor had a broody hen last year and I think he seperated her from the others and away from the nesting area till she lost the mood to sit.

i read somewhere that to stop their broodiness, you put their nest in a bucket or cage, and hang it fromt he ceiling. about 24 hours of swinging w/out water or food cures them. don't know that i would actually do that, but thought i would pass along a good chuckle...

Thanks for the feedback. I am not sure I will try to tree approach but will most likely separate her from her nest for awhile. Hopefully she will be back in "full swing" in no time :)

Removing any eggs right away will also help. Nothing there to sit on.
